Bam!!!! 💥 🔥 💥
If these people were truly concerned for your health, why don’t they discuss what health means and looks like to you? Health does not look like a certain weight and health is so much more than just the physical appearance.
Anyone advising weight loss should take the time to explore with you that things in your life that may influence your health - including mental, emotional, social, financial, environmental and genetic factors.
Perhaps if they did, they would start to realise that losing weight is not as straightforward as the medical world would have you believe. And if they did, they would need to start acknowledging that weight gain is very often the symptom and not the cause of health changes.
We are not anti-weight loss and if a person loses weight as a side-effect of making sustainable and enjoyable behaviour changes, then this can be seen as a positive thing. But equally, if a person makes sustainable and enjoyable behaviour changes that benefit their health but doesn’t lose weight, then this should be seen as a positive thing too, regardless of their size.

If someone suggest you should lose weight, what are they actually asking you to do?
You can’t just make weight loss happen, your body weight is not a behaviour that you can change.
For many, weight gain is a symptom of a change in health and not the cause.
A person can change behaviours and this MAY affect their weight, but weight is so much more complex than what you eat and how much you move.
