Stay Chill & Move Smart 🧊☀️
It's been beyond hot here in NC, so here are some quick tips to stay safe in the summer heat:

1. Know the Signs 🛑
Dizzy, nauseous, or super wiped out? Stop. These may be signs of heat illness.

2. Hydrate Smart 😅
Drink water before, during & after. Add electrolytes if you’re sweating a lot. I like Nuun or NormaLyte.

3. Ease Into It 🐌
Let your body adjust, go slow, keep it short, and listen to how you feel.

As a senior adult, I began an exercise program to increase my strength, core and balance, but was having difficulty continuing due to recurring pain. Jessie helped me tremendously and I have been able to continue to workout and improve my overall well being. Simple regular movement that was guided by a professional (like walking a few times a week) was more effective than many drugs... without the side effects.

🌞Every summer, my creative energy wakes up 🌞Most people know me as a physical therapist, but I’m also an artist. I've dabbled in watercolor, pottery, jewelry, printmaking... and more! ☝️ that's a photo of me at a local art show (dream come true!)

Surprisingly, creativity shows up all the time in the clinic too. Whether it's solving a tough problem or building a personalized treatment plan, creative thinking helps me stay present, focused, and joyful.

It’s how the Mindful Motion Method was born—not from a textbook, but from 25 years of experience, reflection, and a little bravery. It treats the whole person—body and mind—with these four pillars:

😅 How do you stay engaged in your work outs?

I'm always looking for new inspiration and lately, I've been choosing an album as the theme of my work out (no skips) and used the varied tempos, etc to guide my exercises.

➡️ Fast song: crank it loud and get up out of the saddle

➡️ Slow song: sit down and match my cadence to the beat, deeply focus on each rep

Throw is some head banging and lip syncing and before I know it, time is up and I'm sweaty and smiling 😊

This weekend I hiked 8 miles in the Virginia mountains… and by mile 6, my legs were questioning all of my life choices. 🥵

I realized that this is exactly why I preach functional fitness to my patients. It's having the strength, mobility, and resilience to do what you love whether that's hiking, gardening, dancing, or wrangling grandkids, movement is freedom.

Yes, I exercise and yes, I was super sore the next day AND yes, I went on ANOTHER hike (yes, a bit slower.) Hello calves 🔥

I am deeply grateful for a body that could carry me through rugged mountain trails and up to memorable views. 💚
