My approach to skin might be a little different than you’re used to and that’s okay!

I have a background in med spas, salons, full day spas, and everything in between. This has given me the opportunity to be hands on in many different environments with access to advanced tools and machines as well as understanding our roots to nature and how to incorporate both. This is how Skintuition was born.

I wanted to give those that are looking for advanced results that want to stay true to their own skin and to nature a place for facial services. With my background in the “science” of esthetics, I can appreciate advanced technologies like my Geneo machine and chemical peels. And as I learn more about Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda, and Botany, I have been able to combine the two practices of Eastern and Western skincare for a one-of-a-kind facial ritual that I am beyond proud of.

I prioritize your skin barrier health because that’s where true results lie. With each client and each skin concern, it all goes back to the barrier as well as what’s happening internally. We are always looking at your skin in the moment and what it’s telling me and then taking your goals into consideration. Your skin is always telling us what’s happening, it’s time to listen.

All of these winter skin “problems” are super normal and just part of the dry indoor air and cold weather outside. This is why it’s important to stay on top of maintenance facials as well as changing your home care routine to help be proactive with your changing skin.

It’s important to start running your humidifier at home as well as investing in a hydrating serum for both morning and night.

To prevent breakouts from happening, you need to keep your skin barrier happy and healthy with a replenishing moisturizer and/or oil. That might sound backwards for breakouts but it’s all about protecting and calming as well as being anti-bacterial.

We usually talk about over-exfoliation but rarely touch on under-exfoliation. You still need to exfoliate this time of year. You may need to sandwich your actives (hydrating serum + retinol + moisturizer) to avoid sensitivity but you still need that cellular turnover.

This season I am thankful for:

My family- this Christmas I get to have my amazing step-kids home for the holiday and I can’t wait! We get very limited time with them and I am beyond thankful to get to have them this year.

My friends- I have had an incredible year of making new friends through various groups, my church, and my work. I am grateful for how much better they make me as a person and how at home I feel with all of them even though it’s been a “short” time of knowing them.

The Industry- I am thankful for our ever-changing esthetic industry. I love getting to learn new practices in the treatment room as well as how to make each client interaction an experience they wont forget.

Thank you to all of you for following along with me as I navigate what holistic skin health means to me and my esthetic business.

You still need your sun care in the winter. This shouldn’t be breaking news. The sun is out still right? Just because it’s hot, doesn’t mean we don’t still need protection.

With SPF comes extra hydration/protection. A lot of sunscreens can be drying on the skin. I always recommend using a hydrating serum, a moisturizer, and then going in with your SPF. This is also why it’s so important to have an oil-based cleanser at the end of the night to take it off. Let it serve its purpose during the day but make sure you are removing at night.

Okay, I know I always say that there aren’t any rules when it comes to taking care of your skin the best way for you, BUT, these tips below will help you get through the remainder of the holiday season without compromising your skin health.

1. You need to stay hydrated inside and out. Shocking, I know. Seriously though, drink your water, have your humidifier running, and invest in a hydrating serum that you can use both morning and night. This will keep your skin barrier healthy which will lead to fewer breakouts and less fine lines showing.

2. YOU WILL NEVER SKIP CLEANSING YOUR FACE. Ever. I don’t care how late the holiday party went or how tired you are, you will wash your face at least before bed. I won’t even go into the amount of bacteria that lives on your face/pillow cases, just trust me when I say that before bed, you need to wash and at least moisturize.

3. Exfoliate… just enough. It doesn’t matter what type of skin you have, you need to be exfoliating the dead skin cells off your face so your product has somewhere to go. Exfoliation is also necessary if you are breakout prone like me. I like to be preventative with it. If I know I will be having all the sugar and dairy (basically all of December) I will be using my Acid Glow and Fade Serum to keep breakouts from forming and then going in with my protective oils and moisturizers to keep my barrier happy. It’s all about balance.

Dry air season has begun which means it’s time to plug in your humidifier. You should probably wash it out too if you haven't done that yet!

This time of year it’s important to add humidity/moisture back into the air to help support our skin barrier. Usually you will feel the dryness in your lips first but your whole face/skin all over your body is suffering too, it’s just not usually as loud.

Make sure you are drinking your water, using a hydrating serum, a protective moisturizer and oil, and refilling your humidifier for your healthiest winter skin.

Flower Goo

A full-spectrum super serum targets dehydration, dullness, hyperpigmentation, and loss of firmness. A signature cocktail of rose and crocus flower stem cells, white orchid milk, and polypeptides brighten and reset the skin. This peptide serum promotes healing and collagen production.

For all skin types especially mature, dry, sensitive, dull, and acne-prone. Apply directly after cleansing and thoroughly hydrate skin with toning mist of choice. Pump 2-3 pumps of Flower Goo onto palm and gently pat onto sin. Follow with treatment serum (Haute C or Dewy Bean Dream) and then follow with mist and moisturizer.

This is a Fall/Winer must have. Pick up today or at your next appointment with me.

I have such a love/hate relationship with winter. I will be the first to admit that I don’t know when to slow down until it’s too late. I love to be busy, say yes to all the things, and completely overbook my commitments and then when the time comes, I have nothing left in my tank to keep going. Sound familiar? Winter is probably hard for you then, too.

Winter is all about intentionally slowing down and resting. YIKES.

That is why I have decided to prioritize my own health and wellness this winter. I invite you to join in with me.
I will be embracing the cold and the dark instead of fighting it. Nature slows down, we should too.
I will be making my spa suite even more grounded and intentional for each client- tell me what you want to see/feel when you come in the room. I will also be cozyfying (this is now a word) my home and will be enjoying quiet moments in it.
I will be practicing what I preach. YIKES again. I am so good at helping people relax and telling them what they need to care for themselves (and their skin) but I am not great at listening to my own body/mind. Ya’ll can hold me accountable on this one!

What will you be embracing/prioritizing this winter? Want to dive head first into body/mind/skin care? Book your facial appointment with me today.

November recap! I don’t know where the month of November went, time flies when you’re having fun!

I spent many hours prepping and correcting your skin with the seasonal changes. If your skin feels like it’s “freaking out” right now, don’t panic. It’s getting used to the dry indoor air (time for humidifiers), battling the wonderful (and heavy) holiday foods, as well as embracing the cold weather upon us.

Now is the time to get your Glo2 facial booked and start using Flower Goo for ultimate protection from the elements and prevention from pigmentation, fine lines, sensitivity, etc.

I can’t wait to see you in December! ❄️🌲
