WOW! Get those steps in people!!!
🗣 Walking is literally life-saving 🗣
A recent *meta-analysis found rates of all-cause mortality are ~12% lower per 1,000 steps per day.
According to Greg Nuckols:
“Comparing the lowest step counts to the highest reported in the studies included in this meta-analysis, walking 16,000 steps per day was associated with a 66% reduction in all-cause mortality compared to walking 2,700 steps per day.
Stated conversely:
Walking 2,700 steps per day was associated with a three-fold greater risk of all-cause mortality than walking 16,000 steps per day.”
You've probably heard simple advice like:
✅ Take the stairs instead of the elevator
✅ Park farther away at the grocery story
✅ Get up and walk around your house every hour
It's easy to roll your eyes because it feels like it's not making an impact. But these small activities could quite literally extend your life!
And as coaches we can play a powerful role in encouraging our clients to get more of this daily activity.
Share this post with them, and consider starting a consistency challenge where you encourage clients to take a 5- or 10-minute walk every day and anyone who does it for 30 days is entered to win a prize!

Other important note from Greg:
"Just to put those findings in perspective, all-cause mortality rates are ~70-80% higher in smokers than non-smokers, and in people with a BMI of 40 vs. a BMI of 23 (for a BMI of 30 vs. 23, the difference is actually fairly trivial).
This is striking, because people (rightly) criticize smoking, and there's a lot of panic about the "obesity epidemic," but activity levels seem to be more predictive of all-cause mortality rates than either smoking status or BMI.
If you want to live a long time, it never hurts to go for a walk."
Do you make an effort to walk? How do you get more walking in your day?
