One of Orchard Path's residents had been planning for months to attend her granddaughters wedding in Lima, Peru. She had been sharing her plans and excitement with our Administrative Assistant who had completed a college internship in Peru several years ago. The two shared several conversations over the months about Peruvian culture and historic sites that she could visit on her trip. A few weeks ago she realized she was not going to be able to make the trip due to health concerns.
Staff and family began making plans to ensure she could make the wedding via video chat. In addition and unknown to her the staff decided this was a perfect opportunity to fulfill a Liberty Dream❤️
On Saturday evening, March 28th, three members of her extended family came to have dinner with her, then escorted her to the Orchard Path theater where they had arranged to watch the wedding live streamed to the big screen. A couple of staff were on hand to make sure the technical logistics were in place, and to adorn her with a corsage for the grandmother of the bride and process her "ticket" to Peru for the event. Then they presented her with a box containing a tourist guide to Peru, a plush alpaca hand-made in Peru, a genuine Peruvian shawl, and a handmade coffee mug.
Staff also provided a chilled case of Inca Kola so she could toast the bride and groom in true Peruvian style! She was all smiles as staff left her in the theater for the evening to enjoy the wedding with her family.
