Time to post again, just a reminder of what the colors groups in Cernit do.
And next the new pearls are almost here!
Happy Monday, find your peace in the things you love and do that!
It helps the heart and soul, and gives the mind a chance to rest from all the crazy!

There has always been a a lot of “lost in translation” in color names that have made no sense and were not the color named, in Polymer clay.
Like since I can remember.
Names depend on location of manufacturing, who bi***es the loudest, marketing genius plural, what those colors are called in other countries, fashion trends, or the color names for the year.

Having been in fashion manufacturing for awhile I noticed that every year the new color trends would come out for the seasons, winter, spring, summer, fall, and holiday, they were basically the same colors for the “year before” seasons with different catchy names.🤷‍♀️ice cream colors, tropical colors, island oasis, ….all summer.

My opinion has always been to name the colors after traditional color names and then mix the color blends you need. You get to name those anything you want! 🤫😲
That was the basis behind my color palette I picked for the American clay I was helping develop at the time.
To me this then translated to almost every medium we as artists were working with at the time.
It was a way to teach color mixing to anyone of any medium and have the other artists that used traditional names for colors to understand and use polymer clay as a tool as well.

Fad, fashion, and catchy names mean nothing to most of them.

My thoughts were to stick to tradition here and I wanted to show others that this was a viable medium, not just a fashion statement , a gum or candy, or a catchy name. Or a child’s toy, which is not a bad thing at all. I could see it being way more than just that though. Way more.

It would also help kids get it and understand as well and be educated if they wanted to go artsy with their processes. I did, why wouldn’t they?

So I want to explore the colors and the names in the Cernit line, so you can see the colors and buy the right ones for your needs.

I am going to start with the “purples” because everyone loves those!

These are just in the the Opaque colors of the Cernit line called the Number One colors. I will get to the others as well.

Our Website with #1 colors, notice how all specials are at the top of the page as well. Scroll down for individual colors.

And here is my other “Help someone”!
This is my friend Garie Sim, and his daughter Shin Yuurei! They live in Singapore.
Garie and his family run a little business of teaching children the arts, clay, singing, dancing, and performance arts. And tools to use for happiness and fun.
They play games together, and many children are from other countries.
All passing through Singapore.
Here is my letter of why I am doing this and how it came about. This is long but I want you to get a picture of what is happening over there.

“My letter about Shin Yuurei and why I am doing this

I am working on way to help others. Others dedicated to and in the ARTS.
I don't have a lot of money, but I still want to help. I thought you might like to help me, help. It does not matter how much either. I am asking you to help me. Everything counts. Even when we give a dollar at a time, and if lots of us do it, it adds up.

My First Ever Charity will be Shin Yuurei, she is the daughter of a dear friend, Garie Sim.
They live in Singapore. Garie and I have known each other since 1997. We met at a trade show in Chicago. And then in a class. We have been friends ever since. He is a good man. And very good Dad! And a family man, that right there is why we have remained friends since.

Shin is only 38 years old. She has many medical issues right now and has used all of her allotted care for the year. It is only May. (At the time I wrote this), seems like I have been working on this forever.
She has been a part of the whole teaching team at the Sim's household since 2002.
Garie has always loved to teach and share with children. He has passed this down to others, including his family. Of course I love that. Giving kids tools and a way survive the world they were born in has a place in my heart.
This is a very good thing.
The pandemic has not been very kind to the Sim's little business of teaching, sharing, and crafting, at all. They have been in lock down as long (longer) as we have and they can not even teach in their home, it is not allowed at all. They have already downsized every thing they can.
When I heard of the trouble they were in, it was too much for me.
Garie asked me for help, I know this was not easy for him.
He waited a long time as well. But he had used up all of his options.
He has always been able to deal with every thing that has come his way.
This whole family works together to support children and introduce them to a small bit of art in the way that they know how. And to support themselves.
I want to support people that work with children. Children do not ask for racism, crazy making adults, or pandemics and yet they seem to be the ones that clean up our messes and fix things when we don't deal with them. They should be given the tools and the art therapy to help them get through the messes we leave them.
My art projects in my early life helped me get over so many things. They still do. I believe that art is therapy, these are only my opinions but I believe in them deep down in my soul.
And…Together we can change the world.
❤️
Marie”
It took a lot for this Dad to come to me, he is at the end.

Here is Garie’s letter for me that he wrote explaining it all. He is being completely transparent with all of us.

Shin Yuurei

My daughter is and has always been our baby in our hearts. No matter how old, she is courteous, cute, sweet and an independent little girl. As parents we supported her all the way through her education and brought her up well, to be a helpful and filial (dutiful and helpful) woman, to the current age of 38, she is very talented and creative, with her explorations into music, clay and art. She is a bubbly little girl helping and supporting the family, after her education at the age of 19.
She’s not a demanding person, money to her is not everything, she would give us her savings to contribute to the whole family in time of needs, life is like a roller coaster eg. when we were facing SARS and H1N1.

Shin Yuurei has many talents singing, dancing, piano, clay and art, also multiple language skills.
Singing for corporate events, charity and teaching children everything she has learned like dancing, piano, clay and art lessons. She is a dedicated teacher, teaching children and adults since 2002.

Together with the family, we formed Play Creation. Our little family business.
Shin loves children and is always happy teaching them for about 20 years now. Until in 2018, when she was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism, her condition worsened in 2019 due to stress and harassment from relatives and their friends who are jealous of her independent, ability, talent and skill. The harassment on the internet caused her to seek doctors and medications, she was unable to help the family to bring in the income.

In December of 2019, the whole World was facing the coronavirus pandemic.
Singapore was infected by the Covid virus on 23 Jan 2020, and Circuit Breaker (this was what the plan was called to lockdown my city) was put in place, restricting movement, activity and social gathering, we have to stop all art and clay workshops for children and adults, our online businesses also suffered. The family had to tighten the belt and we continued to support, as much as we can my daughter, Shin.
Shin’s condition turned to the worst, she could not breath properly, hands and legs were swollen, Shin was admitted to Singapore Changi General Hospital on 1 June 2020, suffering from a Hyperthyroid storm.

In the hospital, she suffered three cardiac arrests. Thanks to the doctors and specialists in the hospital, they managed to save her life. Her lungs were filled with water and her heart had over worked. We are glad and very happy to have our precious girl back.
Her hospital bills were piling up after she was discharged from the hospital. From 1 June 2020 till now, every month, Doctor’s appointments and medications, the hospital bills amounted to $26,881.44, she needs medication for life, the bills currently exceeded $33,000. She had depleted all her medisave funds. Hospital bills eventually was reduced to balance of $9830.10 plus the current medications and appointments of $6000 amounted to $15,830.10.
Medisave is the program for my country it is the amount you are allowed to spend for the year.
It does not really include people with diseases like this.
It is mostly for healthy people. Any medical extremes is up to the person to pay off. Hard to do when you can not work.

My daughter currently has no income, no CPF savings (CPF, The Central Provident Fund Board, usually known as either CPF Board or simply the Central Provident Fund is a compulsory comprehensive savings and pension plan for working Singaporeans and permanent residents) or enough Medisave to take care of her illness. As for the other family medical expenses, my wife suffers from asthma and me under hypertension, my high blood pressure condition, currently using my medisave. And these programs that are in place are not transferable to family or any one.
My small monthly income is just sufficient to make ends meet but, unable to payoff the balance hospital medical bills for Shin. Under this circumstance, the only alternative is to seek funding from members of the public to help my daughter, with her medical expenses.

From Marie; anyone would be affected with high Blood pressure. (ask me how I know)

If you would like to assist my daughter with her financial burden, any donation would be so greatly appreciated. All the funds raised will go directly to Shin Yuurei to take care of her medical expenses.

Thank You!

You can donate directly to Garie and he will put in to Shin’s account. He doesn’t know if he will make it month to month. He has used up all the options he could think of.
Look through all of these pictures and make your decision.
Thank you so much for anything you can do. Anything…. really! It adds up.
A dollar would be great. Many donating one dollar could change his and his family’s life.
And at the end of the pictures you can find out about the private group, I started to share my donations to this and where you can get something for your donation.

“2006 Sandy Camp 11th Hour Cane

At the end of each Sandy Camp I attended, there was a smattering of folks who stayed a little longer after the festivities concluded. We developed a fun final activity by enlisting all those interested in contributing something to a project. This year we decided on a rainbow cane. Each individual made a rainbow skinner blend and then handed them off to Marie Segal since she's a wizard at assembling and reducing those things. Once she had it reduced, everyone got a small part of it. Following are photos and links to short movies (*.mp4 format) of the fun we had. Click on the thumbnail to launch a larger photo or movie.”

I wanted to give you more reference on the translucent colors; so I played with the last leaf technique again.
The last two pictures are the pieces I am referencing from before, which were made in 2016 and 2017.
The dark turquoise flowers are current. From 2021.
The thing about the stronger colors of the Cernit translucent is, they are dark and saturated, they get much darker after curing. An effect translucent has always had since the beginning of my experiences years ago.
The Sapphire Blue appears much much darker after curing.
These stronger colors can be diluted or cut with regular translucent, a lot.
I did not cut this turquoise mixed translucent but used Sapphire Blue Translucent and Turquoise Blue translucent Cernit and mixed them together on a one part to one part formula.
One to one is a great place to start with the stronger colors of Translucent, the Sappire blue can be diluted 30 to one and maybe more, and still have a nice healthy sapphire blue after baking, the others are the Ruby and the wine Red, and the Amber as well.
I prefer a stronger yellow, my self. When mixing the darker colors of Ruby and Sapphire you will need at least 2 parts of yellow to each of these colors to get in to some of your secondary colors.

Laying flat on my table, these do not even appear translucent. You can though see it here and there with some of the thinner slices.
But the next two pictures placed on my sliding glass door show the magic of the translucent and the beautiful color that hides in the dark.
And shines in the light.
The more you know…the more you grow.

Just loved this picture.

Okay here is a fun translucent experiment in Cernit, that you can actually see the differences.
The top two pictures are a new translucent layer sheet I have made, recently.
They are bright and show all the colors well.
They pop a lot. The lines in the canes are well defined.
The top two translucent sheet earrings photos both have a thin layer of the Opaque white Cernit on the back of the translucent cane sheet.

The bottom two photos are the same translucent sheet cane but with no opaque white sheet on the back of the translecent cane sheet.
You can see all the colors well. But the photo is deceiving because they have light shining through and making them more see through and lines of the cane more prominent.
The same earring on my hand with show what they look like hanging in your hair, still fun but darker and more subtle.
So gray or short hair will show them off well. Light can get to them. I would not recommend the pair for a darker longer haired person
I am getting so gray, I am thinking more about that lately.😂
I love them both but same cane different impressions.
All kinds of opaque back ground sheets can be used under the translucent sheet. Including the metallics.
Both the Background sheet, and the top translucent cane sheet in the top two pairs are both number 4 thicknesses in my pasta machine, but they translucent sheet and the opaque white sheet are rolled together until they both are a number 4 thickness again.
That is the thickness I use on all of earrings like this #4 thickest setting.
Notice how defined the design is on the top set of earrings.
And how much they are not as defined on the other ones.
Both are made the same way with the same translucent sheet, but one has an opaque white background
These are both listed in my Etsy store if you would like to see them there. A lot more pictures.

This is a new Cernit Metallic blend.
I got a bit of the new colors in Cernit Metallics, so I am going to start my experiments.
Very tiny ones.
Thank you Cernit for sending me some so quickly. 😘🤗
I can start my experiments.
First buy extra of these two colors LOL! They are super saturated and lovely, yummy goodness.
I am still waiting. This is the first time we have been out this long through all of the Pandemic. We are feeling pretty grateful at this point and want to thank each and every one of you for your purchases and patience.

I will put the set up pictures for this particular blend in the comments, I can not add pictures and a video here at the same time.

I am using:
All Cernit
Translucent Glitter White
The New Metallic Violet and Metallic Turquoise
A sharp blade
A pasta machine
I am just giving you the blend I made and it’s proportions.
This is then blended in to a Skinner Shade.
You can find info on this every where.
The effect I achieved on the 1 1/4” diameter domes reminded me on Anodized metal or aluminum.

Sorry to be out of the picture right now.
The last couple of weeks have been a lot getting ready for winter months around here and cleaning up the garden area.
Also cleaning and storage clearing. My back is a little iffy right now.
This is what I am working on at the moment.
It is my happy place. A request from a friend.
Waiting for the next shipment to get here.
Having a little tangent. For self comfort. Remember to play as well.
Fingers crossed this reduces as nicely as it looks now.
