Meet the Provider: Todd Schubkegel, M.D.

Meet Dr. Todd Schubkegel, who is new to OSI and is now seeing patients at our Appleton and Shawano locations! Dr. Schubkegel was originally born overseas, but primarily grew up in the Chicago suburbs. He attended medical school at Rush University followed by his residency at Loyola. Dr. Schubkegel moved to Manhattan/midtown area in New York for his fellowship followed by a short stint in Canada for continued training.

We asked Dr. Schubkegel why he chose the medical field.

"I think medicine chose me more. Around four years old, I cut my hand and needed a complex repair. The calm way the ER staff went about their business really put me at ease. Enough that when the hand surgeon came in, I pleaded to watch the repair. I think the amazement of helping people during their time of stress and worry really left an impression. Support from my family to be the first to obtain an advanced degree really helped me stay on track over time."

His best memories throughout his career come from patient outcomes going above and beyond what they expected.

"Within my subspecialty (shoulder and elbow repair, replacement, and reconstruction) I tend to get some real doozies, but regardless of complexity, it is highly rewarding to improve quality of life and often times watch as a patient's entire demeanor and outlook changes from the first visit to the last."

"I am very excited to join OSI as I feel they are very well posed to tackle current and upcoming changes to the care delivery environment. From the physical facility to all those working with boots on the ground, I have continued to be impressed."

Outside of work, Dr. Schubkegel enjoys spending time with his family, including hiking, biking, road tripping, introducing his sons to true classic 80.90s movies and music, and cheering on or coaching their sporting activities. When he has the opportunity to personally unwind, he enjoys cooking, weight training, expanding his DIY abilities, and playing bass guitar.
