Celebrating World Breastfeeding Week-- Did you know?
1. Breastfeeding lowers the risk of ear infections, diarrhea, & stomach issues. In turn, breastmilk also heals externally. Used on skin irritations, rashes, infections, etc.
2. Before milk comes in (day 2-5), the body makes colostrum, many times called "Liquid Gold." It has calcium, potassium, protein, minerals, antibodies, calories, and fats. Baby only needs a small amount of this to stay full until milk comes in.
3. Producing breastmilk consumes 25% of the body's energy. In comparison, the brain only uses 20%.
4. Milk changes its nutritional profile as baby grows. (Milk made for a 3 month old is different than milk for a 9 month old)
5. Milk sprays out of several holes, not just one. As few as 3, and as many as 20 something.
6. The metabolic energy needed to Breastfeeding a baby each day is the amount you would use to walk 7 miles.
