In 2009, a young family in the Santa Cruz Mountains made a lifestyle choice that would subsequently help steer the course of history for legal Cannabis. Surrounded by neighbors who used cannabis to help with a number of serious medical conditions, and cultivating small amounts of it for their themselves, the founders of Santa Cruz Naturals knew that there were big cannabis policy changes to come. With almost a decade of work experience with public and non-profit land-use organizations, they set forth in pursuit of their vision of how “organic” cannabis could be grown and shared with their community.
In May of 2011, that vision began to take shape as the “Santa Cruz Mountain Naturals Collective Headquarters” opened its doors in the sleepy beach town of Aptos, California. For the next five years, the small non-profit grew in popularity and reputation, and soon became one of the leading licensed Cannabis retailers in California. Today, Santa Cruz Naturals remains a cornerstone in California’s cannabis history, and is still owned and operated by its original founder.
