As we wrap up our series of posts highlighting the significant connections between oral health and overall health, the final link we'll be sharing is the one between gum disease and high blood pressure.

High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, is the leading cause of premature death globally, and research has shown that individuals with moderate to severe gum disease are also more likely to suffer from higher blood pressure.

One recent study calculated that there was a 22% higher chance for hypertension in patients with moderate to severe gum disease and a shocking 49% higher occurrence among patients with severe periodontitis.

These statistics, along with those we've previously shared, and many others with similar findings underscore the undeniable association between oral health and overall health.

Regular dental checkups are an integral part of a well maintained and healthy life, and if you've been experiencing bleeding or swollen gums, that checkup is even more important. Don't put it off any longer. Call us today and let our caring professionals help to get you back on track and keep your teeth and gums as healthy as possible.

As more and more studies show the interconnected relationship between oral health and overall health, one such study* has shown an alarming relationship between gum disease and COVID-19 fatalities.

The study finds that individuals suffering from gum disease who contract COVID-19 are 9 times more likely to die from the disease.

What we conclude from this is that, while some people have shown concerns about visiting their dentist due to fears relating to the virus, the truth may be that visiting the dentist regularly to prevent and/or treat gum disease could quite literally be a life-saving choice.

Contact our office today and schedule your routine checkup. Your oral health is our top concern, and we'll be sure to give you the time and attention needed to help you be certain that your teeth and gums are in the best health possible.

As we continue our series examining the relationship between oral health and longevity of life, one often overlooked element of total health is that of mental health.

A recent study has indicated that individuals with gum disease were 37% more likely to develop mental health problems including depression, anxiety, and other "serious mental illnesses."

As research continues its pursuit to understand the correlation between oral health and mental health, one thing we already understand is the importance of oral hygiene and regular dental checkups in the prevention and treatment of gum disease.

By scheduling one of your twice-yearly checkups with our office today, you might be doing more than just keeping your smile bright and healthy. You might also be investing in your mental health.

Contact us today, and let us help you keep that beautiful smile happy and healthy for years to come.
