Applied Behavioral Alternatives provides Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services in the greater Los Angeles areas including: Los Angeles County, San Bernardino County, Ventura County and Orange County. Our focus is to improve the lives of individuals with special needs and developmental disorders. We specialize in the behavioral treatment of individuals diagnosed with Autism and other Developmental Disabilities throughout group homes, private family residences, and day settings. Our goal is for each person/family to effectively build more independent lives and improving the quality of life for themselves and their loved ones.

Our Process:
Assessment and Analyze: A thorough assessment is conducted on the client to determine their strength and weaknesses. Functional analyses are conducted on problem behaviors to identify the triggers from the surrounding environment. Utilizing direct, indirect and experimental methods of analysis, we conduct a thorough investigation of what evokes the problem behaviors.
Classification: Based on the assessment and analysis we classify the problem behavior. Some of the classifications include: Direct Access (attention, sensory or tangibles, Socially Mediated Access (adult facilitated), Escape, Direct Escape (escape or delay of demand) or Socially Mediated Escape (adult facilitated escape).
Environment Changes: Problem behaviors typically occur from over stimulation from the clients environment. Once the triggers are identified, we create essential environmental changes to help prevent problem behavior from occurring.
Communication: A common problem in our clients is their inability to communicate. The main part of our goals is to build up language skills so that our client and effectively communicate their wants and needs. Some clients diagnosed with developmental disability and/or autism may not have the ability to vocalize. With these clients, Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS) will be recommended. PECS is a proven method for clients who cannot vocalize their thoughts or feelings.
Empowerment: With our highly individualized Behavior Program, our clients will be able to learn about their surroundings and develop skills of answering questions about the world and themselves. They will also be able to imitate the language of others, read and write on their own, and finally be able to respond in their own words. In the Behavior Program, Educators and Parents will learn methods and techniques to prevent and mitigate future problem behaviors, ultimately improving the lives of the clients and the people around them.
