Hello beloved community,
We hope you all are doing well and that all of your needs are met in this time. We know that many of you may be affected by the upcoming lapse in SNAP funding. We wanted to make sure that you knew about some local non-federal resources.
Food for People is our Humboldt County food bank and works to eliminate hunger and improve the health and well-being of our community through access to healthy and nutritious foods, community education and advocacy.
Please visit https://www.foodforpeople.org/ (linked in our bio) to learn all about Food for Peoples many offerings, including programs like the Eureka Choice Pantry, which provides income-eligible community members with access to healthy and nutritious foods. You can “shop” through their food selection process much like you would in a grocery store, rather than receiving pre-packaged bags. Each household may shop at the Choice Pantry once per month.
It’s located at 307 W. 14th St in Eureka and is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. You can call them at (707)445-3166 to make an appointment, or walk-ins are possible from 1:30 - 3:45pm.
Some of our families are lucky enough to not have their access to food be shifting or threatened right now. If you are in this place and looking for ways to help, donating to local food projects are one of the most effective ways to do so! If you are in a place to donate, please visit the Food for People website and navigate to “Give”.
We’re sending you all lots of love and care,
The Moonstone Midwives Team
