A dietitian’s role in eating disorder care goes far beyond meal plans or weight goals. It’s about helping you rebuild trust with your body, reduce shame around food, and gently challenge rigid or punishing patterns with eating. Healthy eating isn’t about perfection, rules, or fear—it’s flexible, nourishing, satisfying, and supportive of both your physical and emotional wellbeing, and it looks different for every single person.

If you’re longing for more peace, freedom, and enjoyment with food—without sacrificing your health—we’re here to walk with you. Reach out to schedule an appointment with our dietitian specializing in eating disorder recovery at Harvest Counseling & Wellness.

I was that kid that spent a lot of time sitting in the hallway for talking in class. You never know where rambunctious, chatty kids will end up.

When a child can’t explain what they’re feeling, it often shows up in behavior instead. Meltdowns, aggression, withdrawal, or regression are common ways children communicate stress, confusion, or emotional overwhelm.

Play therapy offers children a developmentally appropriate way to express and process emotions without needing the right words. Through structured play, children can safely work through experiences related to family changes, school stress, anxiety, or difficult transitions. Therapy focuses on emotional safety first, helping children build awareness, regulation, and coping skills over time.

Parents are supported throughout the process with guidance and insight, helping them better understand what their child’s behavior may be communicating and how to respond with clarity and connection at home.

Harvest Counseling & Wellness provides child-centered play therapy for families in Argyle, Denton, and surrounding DFW communities. If your child is struggling to talk about their feelings, support is available.

If you are a parent sitting in the waiting room, we want you to take a deep breath. Starting therapy for your child can feel like a “failure” of parenting. We want to clear that up right now: it’s the opposite! You are giving them a toolkit for life. You are helping them build emotional intelligence before they even hit middle school. You’re doing a great thing!

Let’s be honest: no one gives you a manual for when your kids grow up. One day you’re managing their playdates, and the next, you’re biting your tongue while they make life-altering decisions.

If you’ve ever felt the "heartache of the shift," you need to read "Doing Life with Your Adult Children" by Jim Burns, Ph.D.

The core philosophy? Keep your mouth shut and the welcome mat out. It sounds simple, but as any parent of an adult knows, it’s incredibly tough to master. This book is a masterclass in navigating the "consultant" phase of parenting. It tackles the hard questions we may wrestle with:

"Where did I go wrong with their choices?"

"Am I helping them or just enabling them?"

"How do I handle their partner or their new values?"

The Bottom Line: Your role hasn't ended; it has just changed shape. Jim Burns reminds us that we can stay connected without being controlling.

Whether your "kid" is across the country or back in their old bedroom, this book helps you keep the relationship strong while protecting your own peace. 🏠💛

“Self-care is giving the world the best of you, instead of what’s left of you.” —Katie Reed

Self-care isn’t selfish, indulgent, or something you earn after pushing through exhaustion. It’s the steady practice of paying attention to your needs before burnout sets the pace. When you care for yourself consistently, you show up with more patience, clarity, and presence—for your family, your work, and your relationships.

If you’ve been running on empty, this is your reminder: you don’t have to wait until you’re depleted to take yourself seriously. Caring for yourself now allows you to give from a place of wholeness, not survival.

Pause. Breathe. Check in with yourself today. What do you need right now—not later?
