They were doing fine. Until the routines got heavier.
Until the noise in the classroom felt louder.
Until the mask started to slip.
For many neurodivergent kids, school is a marathon of coping—coping with bright lights, loud rooms, unclear instructions, social confusion, constant expectations, and very little room to decompress.
In the beginning, they power through.
But after a few weeks, the cracks start to show.
You might see it in the refusal to go to school.
In the meltdowns after 3pm.
In the forgetfulness, the shutdowns, the tears.
This is the mid-year crash—and it’s more common than most parents realize.

At Harvest Counseling & Wellness, we recognize this pattern and we know how to help. Our team works with kids and families who feel like they’re doing everything “right” but still hitting a wall.

We help kids get regulated again.
We help parents understand what’s really going on.
We help schools see what’s being missed.
This isn’t about pushing through.
It’s about building a better way forward.

The term neurodivergent has become more widely used in recent years—but it’s often misunderstood. Some people associate it only with clinical diagnoses. Others hear it and assume it means something is “wrong.” At Harvest Counseling & Wellness, we believe clarity leads to compassion—and we....

You’ve probably heard the word neurodivergent—but what does it actually mean?
Neurodivergence describes the natural variations in how brains function. It includes things like ADHD, Autism, dyslexia, sensory processing challenges, and more. These differences aren’t problems to be fixed—they’re ways of experiencing the world that deserve understanding and support.

Some signs that may point to neurodivergence in children or teens include:
• Difficulty with transitions
• Sensory sensitivities (to noise, clothing, textures)
• Emotional dysregulation (meltdowns or shutdowns)
• Trouble with organization, time, or focus
• Intense interests or hyperfocus
Many families notice these patterns become harder to manage as the school year picks up—especially during the fall and winter months, when routines get disrupted and expectations rise. This is often called the “mid-year crash.”

The good news? There are practical, research-informed ways to support neurodivergent kids at home and at school—starting with understanding, structure, and tools for emotional regulation.

Whether you’re a parent, educator, or caregiver, building that support system early can make a big difference.

If your family could use support this school year, our team is here to help.
