MICHAEL OUTSIDE THE WC

What do you like to do outside of the Wellness Center?

I live an active lifestyle, as a bike commuter, downhill skier, I like beach frisbee, and recently learned to wakeboard (at age 58.) In a former life I was a professional musician and songwriter, and still enjoy playing guitar, bass, keyboard and singing.


Favorite current song – “Planet Hunter” by Wolf Alice

Pump up song – anything by Rage Against the Machine

A major goal for myself and my clients is to enjoy the long possible movement-oriented life. With that I mean I don’t want aging to prevent me from doing physical things I want or need to do, like carry heavy things or shovel snow, or play tennis or downhill ski. Workouts need to adapt as you age and I am passionate about strength training as the primary blunting force against the aging juggernaut.

How long have you worked at the Wellness Center?

This is my 21st year at the Wellness Center!


What is it about the Wellness Center that makes you want to train here?

I love training at the Wellness Center because our emphasis on Wellness makes this an encouraging and positive environment, also because of the variety in members’ ages and goal sets, and lastly because it’s simply the finest facility in our area.


What do you specialize in?

I’m an exercise scientist and a promoter of health and Wellness Center is in a way our lab and playing field. I specialize in helping people move better. A large proportion of my clientele are people who have sought me out for this reason to work on their ability to move. On one level this might be a better understanding of how to do an exercise, and on deeper levels, how to target specific muscles, and even how to reduce pain associated with movements like a lunge or a squat.

WHAT'S NEW IN GROUP EX?!?

Gentle Chair Yoga 45

A slow-paced yoga practice that focuses on gentle stretching to increase flexibility, strength and body awareness. Mindful movements will be incorporated with breathing exercises (pranayama) and poses that improve strength and balance. Chair, blankets, blocks and other props will be used to support the practice. Free for members and MedFit.

Strength and Conditioning 60

Join Dede for a 60-minute full-body workout designed to build strength, improve endurance, and boost overall fitness. This class combines resistance training, functional movements, and conditioning drills to help you feel stronger, more energized, and confident in your body. All levels are welcome!

Date/Time: Thursdays 9:15 am – 10:15 am



Spinning 50

50 minutes. This morning class is a great cardiovascular workout. Pedal through hill climbs, sprints, and many other challenging drills and exercises. All Level.

Date/Time: Mondays 7 am – 7:50 am



Strength and Conditioning 50

50 min classes added with Vicki! Come make this class your own with challenging your major muscle groups for each exercise. With the use of body weight, barbells, dumbbells, and/or medballs; your muscles will be working the whole time. All Level
