Prepare for Extreme Cold: Stay Safe This Winter ❄️🚨
Extreme cold weather can lead to frostbite and hypothermia if you’re unprepared. The key is to plan ahead and take preventive measures to protect yourself, your loved ones, your pets, and your property. Here are some essential tips from our National Program:
• Check the Forecast:
Make it a habit to check weather.gov or your favorite weather app. Knowing what to expect helps you prepare in advance. 📱
• Adjust Your Schedule:
If possible, avoid being outdoors during the coldest part of the day—usually early morning. Find a warm spot for your children while waiting for the bus. ⏰
• Protect Your Pets & Property:
Ensure pets, livestock, and even your plants have sufficient shelter, food, and water that won’t freeze. 🐾🌱
• Fill Up Your Tank:
Keep at least half a tank of gas in your vehicle to stay warm in case you get stranded. ⛽
• Dress Appropriately:
Even if you’re not expecting to be outside long, wear layers and proper winter attire to keep warm. 🧤
• Update Your Winter Car Survival Kit:
Equip your vehicle with essential supplies, including:
⚡Jumper cables, flares or a reflective triangle
🔦Flashlights (with fresh batteries)
💊A well-stocked First Aid Kit and any necessary medications
👶Baby gear (diapers, formula, etc.)
🍲Non-perishable food (canned goods, cereals, nuts, energy bars)
💧Water (at least 1 gallon per person per day for at least 3 days)

🐾Pet supplies
