One often overlooked part of that journey is lymphedema, a condition that can develop after breast cancer surgery or radiation. It causes painful swelling, most commonly in the arms, and can significantly impact quality of life. But there is hope—and help.

• 1 in 5 breast cancer survivors (approximately 20%) develop lymphedema after treatment, with rates exceeding 50% among those who undergo axillary lymph node dissection combined with radiation or chemotherapy.
