Introducing: Pet of the Month! 🏆🐾

At Arlington Heights Animal Hospital, we know all of our patients are stars! 🌟 To honor the exceptional pets we see every day, we are thrilled to announce that we will be featuring one lucky pet on our social media as AHAH’s Pet of the Month! 🎉🏆🐾

Winners will be drawn randomly at the end of the month, and each month we will feature one dog and one cat. 🐱 🐶 In addition to the fame and recognition your pets will receive, pet parents will also win a special prize! 🎁

📸 If you are interested in submitting your pet for consideration, please email your favorite photo of your pet to photos@ahahvets.com, and be sure to fill out our social media release form that can be found on our website! Photo release forms are also available in the hospital when you visit us. If your email submission contains more than one pet, each pet will be entered into the drawing to win. We’d love if you shared some fun facts about your pets as well! Tell us all about their favorite toys, treats, and tricks! ✨🎾🧶

We hope everyone participates, and we cannot wait to show off our superstar patients! 🌟🐾

New Patient Alert! 🚨 🐶

Meet Gracie! You may be thinking “That’s a cloud, not a pup!” ☁️ Well we are here to tell you this great pyrenees lady is soft as a cloud and as sweet as pie! 💕

Gracie was recently adopted and comes from Texas and is currently being treated for heartworm disease. This is not uncommon for dogs that are brought up from southern states where heartworm carrying mosquitos are prevalent, which is why it’s so important to have all new pets tested for heartworm as soon as possible after adoption! We also see plenty of heartworm in Illinois too, so we always recommend annual heartworm testing and administering year-round heartworm prevention. 💊 Even pets who don’t spend a lot of time outdoors are still susceptible since we all know mosquitoes can easily find their way into our homes! 🦟 Dogs infected with heartworms can harbor hundreds of worms, and left untreated it can cause long term damage to our beloved pets or even be fatal. Thankfully Gracie is in great hands for her treatment! 🏥

We are so happy to welcome Gracie to the AHAH family! For more information on heartworm disease and prevention, you can visit the American Heartworm Society’s website, or ask Dr. Flaska and Dr. Kuhnle about it at your next visit! ❤️‍🩹🪱

Arlington Heights Animal Hospital is excited to welcome our new patient Pleakley! 🐶 Recently rescued, Pleakley was in today for a post-adoption wellness visit with his mom and was a STAR!🌟 He is a lover of treats and has an exceptional “Lilo and Stitch” themed name! We are thrilled that Pleakley and his family chose AHAH for his care! ❤️

A great reminder to all of our lovely pet families: when a new family member is adopted, it is always recommended that they get examined as soon as possible after adoption to make sure they are up-to-date on vaccinations 💉 , check for intestinal parasites 🪱 , and to answer any questions or concerns new owners may have about integrating their new family member into their homes! 🏠 ❤️

Ticks are small, but the problems they cause can be serious. As weather warms and pets spend more time outside, it helps to know where ticks hide and how to check for them.

Ticks often wait on tall grass, brush and leaf piles along the edges of yards, parks and trails. After outdoor time, a slow, thorough check can help you spot them early.

We can also recommend year-round parasite prevention that fits your pet and your local area so you do not have to guess.

What happens when your dog eats 24 ounces of chocolate? Let's ask Re*****on...
**GRAPHIC PICTURES IN COMMENTS-DON'T LOOK IF YOU'RE SQUEAMISH**
(permission to post from Re*****on's mom)

Seriously though: Chocolate is toxic to dogs due to
theobromine and caffeine, which cause nervous system and heart stimulation, vomiting, diarrhea, tremors, and seizures. Darker chocolate is more dangerous, with cocoa powder and baking chocolate being the most toxic. Contact us or an emergency clinic immediately if your dog ingests any chocolate.
