Northwest Wellness Group

Northwest Wellness Group Seeing a physical therapist for pelvic issues can be unsettling. Opening up about sometimes personal issues is difficult.

Private physical therapy clinic treating pelvic floor dysfunction - female, male, and pediatric including gynecological, urological, GI and abdominal conditions. Allowing someone to physically treat you for those concerns requires a great deal of trust. Rosie Radford understands these concerns. An experienced doctor of physical therapy who specializes in pelvic health, she respects the personal nature of pelvic physical therapy. In addition, she understands the significant impact that pelvic conditions have on your quality of life. Now Dr. Radford has established Northwest Wellness Group, an exclusive private physical therapy practice, to meet the needs of patients with these concerns. This practice is the first specialty physical therapy clinic in Arlington Heights to focus specifically on urological and gynecological conditions. Previously, Dr. Radford treated patients at Northwest Community Hospital for 17 years where she expanded the pelvic floor program. The new practice, located a few blocks west of Northwest Community Hospital, offers patients a private and comfortable atmosphere. It is a warm and inviting treatment space, where patients feel safe and confidentiality is a priority.

Do you know where all the bathrooms are when you go out? Do you make sure you empty your bladder as much as possible just in case you won’t be able to find a bathroom later?

There's lots of misconceptions about what pelvic floor therapy is.

We wanted to share the myths we have heard the most and debunk them for you.

What other questions about pelvic PT do you have?

Just a friendly reminder "in every three, you should p*e!"

What does this mean?

Basically, if you are adequately hydrated, you should be urinating every 2-4 hours while you are awake. Sometimes we remind patients with this simple rhyme to help them out.

Things that could help you p*e at a normal frequency:

1. set a timer for every 2-4 hours and go when it tells you to
2. drink enough (but not too much water) throughout the day
3. don't CHUG your fluids- SIP instead
4. avoid or reduce bladder irritants like coffee, alcohol, citrus/acidic foods and drinks

Does everyone need to p*e every 2-4 hours ALL THE TIME?

Of course not. Things are fluid (haha, get it?) throughout the day. But in general, or on average, normal voiding of our bladders is about every 2-4 hours while we are awake.

Is this you?

Are you struggling to p**p?

Is it painful?

Are you only getting little bits out at a time?

You might have something called "outlet dysfunction constipation" or "dyssnergic defecation" which is a type of pelvic floor dysfunction.

Here's some things that can help:

1. Use a squatty potty or similar to get your knees higher than your hips. This helps to relax and open the a**s to get the p**p out!

2. Breathe when you are pushing. Do not hold your breath!

3. See a pelvic floor PT! We can assess your anorectal muscles and determine what your particular issue is so you can **pbetter.
