IFS and Substance Use: A Compassionate Lens
At Encore we have a trained Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapist who is providing treatment in both individual therapy as well as weaving concepts of IFS into group therapy as well. IFS has taught us that substance use isn’t just about willpower — it’s often a coping strategy. In Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, these behaviors are seen as “parts” working hard to protect us from pain.
Instead of shaming or suppressing, IFS helps us meet these parts with curiosity and compassion. For clients, this reduces shame and opens space for healing. For therapists, it offers a powerful framework to build trust and support lasting change.
Recovery in IFS isn’t about controlling a behavior — it’s about reconnecting with the Self, the calm and compassionate core within each person. From here, new choices and deeper healing become possible.
✨ In IFS, every part is welcome.
