IFS and Substance Use: A Compassionate Lens
At Encore we have a trained Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapist who is providing treatment in both individual therapy as well as weaving concepts of IFS into group therapy as well. IFS has taught us that substance use isn’t just about willpower — it’s often a coping strategy. In Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, these behaviors are seen as “parts” working hard to protect us from pain.
Instead of shaming or suppressing, IFS helps us meet these parts with curiosity and compassion. For clients, this reduces shame and opens space for healing. For therapists, it offers a powerful framework to build trust and support lasting change.
Recovery in IFS isn’t about controlling a behavior — it’s about reconnecting with the Self, the calm and compassionate core within each person. From here, new choices and deeper healing become possible.
✨ In IFS, every part is welcome.
📞 Are you or someone you know ready to take the first step toward healing? Our admissions team is here to help. Encore is actively accepting new patients for IOP and General Outpatient levels of care with day and evening group options for primary substance use disorder, mental health/trauma secondary. Healing isn’t just about breaking habits — it’s about rediscovering purpose.

At Encore Outpatient Services, we believe in:

💡Redefining what healing can look and feel like — nuanced, evidence-based, and deeply personal.

💡Creating a purpose-driven path forward, one that honors each individual’s story, strengths, and goals.

💡Supporting long-term recovery with real-world tools, community connection, and clinical depth.

📍 Located in Arlington, VA, Encore offers a full continuum of outpatient primary substance use disorder services — meeting individuals where they are and walking with them toward where they want to be.

Fresh Start. Focused Mind. One Day at a Time.
It’s Monday — the start of a new week, and another opportunity to move forward with clarity, strength, and purpose.
Recovery isn’t just about saying no to what once was. It’s about saying yes to what’s possible.
Yes to growth.
Yes to healing.
Yes to progress — however small it may seem.
Every week is a blank page.
Every day is a new sentence.
And every choice is part of your comeback story.
If you’re walking the recovery path — whether quietly or out loud — you are not alone. Stay focused. Stay grounded.

🌱 Sustaining Long-Term Recovery: Growth, Not Perfection 🌱
Recovery is not a destination—it is a lifelong commitment to growth, healing, self-love and self-awareness. While milestones are important, what sustains recovery over the long term is consistency, connection, and the courage to seek support when it’s needed.

Here are some key warning signs that it might be time to reach out and reconnect with your support system:
• You’re withdrawing from people or isolating
• You’re experiencing increased stress, anxiety, or depression, out of the blue or life stressors
• Cravings or thoughts of using are more frequent or intense
• You’re skipping recovery meetings, therapy, or healthy routines
• You notice old patterns resurfacing—like dishonesty, impulsivity, or secrecy
Relapse does not happen in a moment—it builds in silence. The earlier we acknowledge the warning signs, the more power we have to prevent it. Whether you’ve been in recovery for 6 months or 6 years, support is strength—not a setback.

Let’s normalize check-ins, peer support, and asking for help without shame. Recovery is not about never struggling—it’s about showing up for yourself even when you do.

📞 If you or someone you love is in need of outpatient treatment for substance use/co-occurring disorders please reach out to our Admissions Specialist, Javon Trice at (703) 436-8158 or by email at jtrice@encorerecovery.com.
Effective July 1, 2025 Encore now accepts Optum/UHC in-network for our IOP level of care.
Feel free to share what helps you stay grounded in your recovery journey.

On December 5th, Encore Outpatient’s team gathered for the remote viewing of the celebration of life for Rev. Jack Abel, Caron’s Spiritual Care Team Leader.

For more than 15 years at Caron, Rev. Jack touched many lives with his kindness, wisdom, love, and unwavering dedication to our community, offering guidance and support through so many of life’s moments. He was a champion for our patients and their families and for the role of spirituality in recovery because he understood that recovery is rooted in healing the spiritual pain caused by addiction. His legacy of faith, love and service will remain a part of who we are and will continue to live on in all our hearts - inspiring hope, healing, and strength for generations to come.

On this Veterans Day, we pause to remember all those who have served. Our veterans deserve our gratitude, not just today, but every day through advocacy and policy that honors their sacrifices and commitments. Today, be sure to thank a vet!

We love seeing this story in the news! The Maryland Department of Health has partnered with the Baltimore Ravens to launch a powerful new awareness campaign. This initiative, featuring Ravens tight end Mark Andrews, aims to reduce stigma around addiction and provide vital resources for those seeking help.

At Encore Outpatient Services, we applaud this collaborative effort to normalize conversations about substance use disorders. By leveraging the platform of professional sports, this campaign has the potential to reach a wide audience and make a significant impact. Bravo!

October is Substance Use Prevention Month. Started in 2011, this important observance lifts up the conversation and showcases prevention’s positive effects on communities.

Studies show that prevention works. Prevention efforts strengthen protective, cultural supports while reducing the risk factors associated with developing problematic substance use. The positive impacts extend to individuals, families, schools, communities, and society.

This October, let’s work together to build awareness and support prevention - you can start by simply sharing this graphic from SAMSHA!

At Encore Outpatient Services, we believe that recovery happens in community. That's why we've created welcoming spaces for connection and relaxation within our facility.

Our community area, complete with a shuffleboard table, provides a perfect spot for patients to unwind, build relationships, and practice social skills in a safe, substance-free environment. These moments of casual interaction and fun are invaluable parts of the healing process.

We're committed to maintaining a warm, supportive atmosphere where recovery can flourish.
