Support the Arlington Free Clinic Smile Squad at the 2026 MLK Day of Service on Monday, January 19, by assembling dental care gift bags for patients. Volunteers collect supplies in advance and drop off prepared kits.

Volunteers can also participate in a Community Tour to learn about the clinic and create Valentines for clinic volunteers.

As 2025 comes to a close, we are deeply grateful for the generosity of our community. Thanks to the support of our volunteers, donors, and partners, Arlington Free Clinic provided nearly 10,000 patient visits to over 1,600 adults, delivering timely treatment and dignity for our neighbors who would have otherwise lacked access to comprehensive healthcare.

Every holiday season, longtime supporter Bob Deason and his family collect leftover poinsettias from Merrifield Gardens and deliver a truckload to AFC. This thoughtful tradition is something our patients and staff look forward to each year, bringing extra warmth and cheer to the clinic. Thank you so much to the Deason family for making the holidays brighter for our AFC community!

Thank you to everyone who donated to AFC’s second annual Pop-Up Holiday Gift Shop! Thanks to the generosity of local families, churches, and civic groups, our patients and their families were able to receive toys, books, winter essentials, grocery gift cards, and even enjoy a gift-wrapping station one day to make the experience extra special. We are so grateful to everyone who contributed and helped bring extra joy and holiday cheer to our patient community this season!

AFC would be nothing without its amazing volunteers! Each month, we highlight a volunteer nominated by one of our staff to honor their dedication to our mission. This December, Emely Marchena, Community Resource Navigator, has nominated Lisbel So Zhang, Community Resource Intern and Volunteer.

Lisbel first joined AFC as a summer intern and has continued volunteering into the fall. Despite balancing school and two jobs, she consistently showed up with dedication and heart, helping connect patients with the non-medical resources they rely on, including food, rent assistance, employment, transportation, and more. Since she started in the summer, Lisbel has supported more than 160 patients, making a profound impact on their lives and on AFC’s ability to provide truly comprehensive care that goes beyond the care provided in the exam room.

Emely nominated Lisbel for her compassion, eagerness to learn, and willingness to jump in wherever needed, all with a smile on her face. She also shared that Lisbel was not only a fantastic intern but continues to be an extraordinary volunteer and is beyond grateful for her support these last few months.

Lisbel, we are so thankful for your commitment and the joy and dedication that you bring to our community!

Last week, AFC hosted its annual Diabetes and Nutrition Event. Patients were able to learn about diabetes management medications and food labels, enjoy a cooking demonstration, and even join a Zumba class. Huge thank you to our incredible staff and volunteers for making this an engaging and informative evening for our patients!

Flu vaccine season is in full swing at AFC! Since September 1, our team has provided 533 flu shots to help keep our community healthy. We’ll continue offering the vaccine until the spring to ensure patients don’t miss the chance to get protected. Huge thanks to RN Manager Leigh-Ann, Lead MA Aida, and all of our staff and volunteers for making this vital service available to all AFC patients!
