Why do athletes use the DEXA? ⁣

When it comes to competing at an elite level in any sport an athlete needs to be dialed in with their training, nutrition, and recovery. By using the DEXA an athlete is able to understand how these different variables are effecting their results which translates to their performance. If the athlete needs to cut down or put on size they are able to ensure that they are heading in the correct direction.

The DEXA provides the athletes with information such as lean mass, fat mass, total mass, body fat, visceral fat and more. When an athlete goes the distance to understanding how their body is responding it sets them apart from all the rest. ⁣

You don’t need to be an athlete to use the DEXA. Are you starting a new workout program or nutrition plan? Are you entering a new season for change? ⁣

If so, comment with a 👍🏼 down below and we’ll send you the link to schedule your next DEXA.

Why choose an RMR test over…..

….a random formula that has no type of specificity other than a “general rule of thumb”?

When you calculate your potential RMR or BMR online to identify your total caloric consumption, you are basing it off the average.

While some people fall into this category, that doesn’t mean all or even most do.

When you test your resting metabolic rate, you are able to identify how many calories you burn at rest. This number isn’t based on the “average” and is instead determined by how much oxygen your body intakes, versus how much carbon dioxide your body produces.

Everyone has a unique genetic make-up and different body compositions which will require individualized oxygen exchange rates.

If we keep trying to put everyone one on the same playing field with body types of all kinds, we could significantly be under feeding an athlete who might be trying to gain muscle, under feeding someone who has been trying to loose weight but in reality their body needs more food. Or maybe over feeding someone with a slower metabolic rate.

With an RMR test you can take the guesswork out of play and understand how to eat better for your body and your goals! @ Tampa, Florida

😵‍💫 One of the biggest struggles we see is the all-or-nothing mentality.

🥴 Everyone tries to change everything all at once striving for 100% perfection when in reality, even just the smallest amount of change can create a huge difference over time.

👆This pyramid is to help show the importance of the different nutrition aspects and where your primary focus should begin rather than everything all at once. The first is to start with consistency.

The average busy man or woman will typically only consume 2-3 meals a day where breakfast or lunch have been skipped due to improper hunger cues and busy work schedules. This causes large fluctuations in a person’s caloric consumption over the week. So it’s important to be consistent day-to-day. If you cannot create a consistent change in your life, everything above is pointless.

Next, we have calorie consumption. This will be how many calories you are consuming. You will either be eating in a caloric deficit, surplus, or even maintenance. Your caloric consumption has a direct correlation with your goals and should always be adjusted depending on the phase you are in.

Following calorie consumption is food quality. Once we have determined how many calories you should be eating, the next step would be to look into the quality of your food. Instead of consuming primarily processed foods, start changing those out for whole foods. Whole foods will provide more micronutrients and health benefits and are better digested.

After food quality comes macros. Macro counting isn’t for everyone and it would be wrong to acknowledge the method as an end-all-be-all considering its modern popularity. However, having a general understanding of what macronutrients are and the importance of each will help you create a balanced diet. This will also benefit you and your goal. Most people are deficient in at least one macronutrient so it’s important that you understand how your body utilizes and where to find them.

Are you waiting until the first week of January to start getting back on track? Here’s why that might not be the best idea 👇🏼

With our society being so dependent on short term fixes and instant gratification it tends to set most people up for failure from the start. At the beginning of every new year people through themselves into a cycle of I’m ready to change, but I lost motivation, and it goes something like this....

😃 New Year, new me. I’m excited to make changes!
😌 1st week in m, I’m doing great
🧐 I don’t see changes, or maybe I need to “restart”
😫 Life obstacles got in the way
🥸 What is nutrition
😃 I’ll start again next Monday or maybe in 2022

We always tell our clients that it generally will take about 2-3 weeks to get on track with everything. This will also be very dependent on a clients past diet history, exercise history, their current lifestyle, dietary needs and more. So why set yourself up for failure when you could be starting today? And when everyone is start their crazy new year cycle, you’ll just be at the point to make great changes.

Stop waiting, start now!
