Spring is a time of growth, progress, and forward movement, just like recovery after a stroke, injury, or neurological diagnosis. Getting your body moving safely is an important part of regaining independence.

After inpatient rehabilitation at Reunion, patients can continue progress through activities like:
-Gentle stretching or yoga
-Light strength and balance exercises
-Walking outdoors or on a treadmill
-Adaptive sports or recreational therapy

Every step, every movement, builds confidence and supports ongoing recovery.

This season could be the start of meaningful progress.

Recovery after a brain injury requires structured, coordinated care. At Reunion, patients may work with:

- Physical therapists to improve strength and safe movement
- Occupational therapists to rebuild independence with daily tasks
- Speech-language pathologists to address memory, communication, and swallowing

As we reflect on Heart Month in February, we are proud to highlight one of our Case Managers and Social Workers at Reunion Arlington, who has been part of our team for about two years.

Each day, she begins by grabbing a coffee and reviewing new admissions before updating her caseload and connecting with patients and families about discharge plans. Her role is centered around guidance, reassurance, and helping patients take the next step forward in their recovery journey. Her advice to patients is simple but powerful: trust the process of recovery and find the positive in even the most difficult days.

Outside of work, she enjoys reading, painting, spending time with her husband, and catching up with her kids. She also loves to dance. She may say she gets tired faster these days, but her love for dancing and living life fully remains.

Heart Month holds a deeply personal meaning for her. She was born with three congenital heart defects (CHDs) and has undergone four open-heart surgeries at ages 4, 5, 17, and 43.

Every day, about 1 in 110 babies are born with a congenital heart defect, making it more common than childhood cancer, though it is often less widely recognized. Thankfully, survival rates have improved significantly over the years thanks to research, awareness, and advances in medical technology. Conditions like aortic stenosis, which once had very limited treatment options in the 1970s, now have survival rates near 90 percent. Her journey has shaped the way she views life and her work with patients.

Her journey has given her a powerful perspective on life. She is deeply grateful for the parents who supported her through it all, the care she received at Children's Medical Center in Dallas and UT Southwestern, and the amazing family, friends, and coworkers who continue to surround her with support.

So when people ask why February is special to her, she has a simple answer: "It's not just because I get flowers from people who love me. It's because I'm alive."

Her resilience, compassion, and perspective make a lasting impact on our patients and our team every day. We are grateful to have her as part of the Reunion Arlington family. ❤️

At 60 years old, Travis was an active electrician and devoted father whose life changed instantly after suffering a cerebrovascular accident. When he arrived at Reunion Arlington, he required total assistance. He had significant weakness, limited range of motion, decreased head, neck, and trunk control, and was unable to verbally express his needs.

Despite the challenges ahead, Travis was determined to recover.
With the support of his dedicated therapy team, PT Lucille Logan, OT Logan Glazier, and SLP Shameem Dean, he participated in daily occupational, physical, and speech therapy. Through consistent, comprehensive care and his own perseverance, he began making steady progress.

What started with a Hoyer lift progressed to standing, then walking with a walker. Today, Travis can stand, walk, communicate effectively, feed himself, and complete dressing with minimal assistance and supervision.

He is now continuing his journey in a day neuro program to further maximize his recovery and work toward returning to the active lifestyle he loves.

Travis shares deep gratitude for his care team and pride in how far he has come. His story is a powerful reminder that with determination and the right support, meaningful recovery is possible.

March is National Nutrition Month, and at Reunion, we recognize that healing begins from within.

For patients recovering from stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, or other complex neurological conditions, proper nutrition plays a critical role in the rehabilitation process. The right balance of protein supports muscle rebuilding. Hydration supports cognitive clarity and endurance during therapy. Balanced meals help maintain energy levels needed for daily rehabilitation sessions.

Recovery is not just about therapy hours. It is about giving the body and brain the fuel they need to repair, rebuild, and regain strength. Our interdisciplinary team works together to ensure each patient’s nutritional needs align with their individualized care plan, supporting safer progress and stronger outcomes.
