Since its founding in 1974, the Nirschl Orthopaedic Center (NOC) has been consistently rated one of the top orthopedic and sports medicine centers in the Washington metropolitan area. Our board certified physicians, with their extensive experience, are at the forefront of treating disorders of the hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip and knee. Many have graduated from leading fellowship training programs. The tradition of quality care and innovation originally instilled by our founder, Dr. Robert P. Nirschl, continues today with new treatments in hip arthroscopy, minimally invasive and rapid recovery joint replacement and regenerative medicine (PRP and stem cells). At NOC and our state-of-the-art rehabilitation facility, Virginia Sports Medicine Institute, we treat all of our patients, including professional and recreational athletes, those with non-athletic injuries, children as well as adults, with uncompromising care, compassion and understanding. Our physicians are dedicated to advancing medicine and supporting the next generation (both inside and outside the clinic) by staying involved through education, research, and leadership in the broader medical community. This weekend Dr. Cassie Root traveled to Vancouver, Canada, to speak at the American Society for Surgery of the Hand Annual meeting. The topic was less invasive treatment options for Dupuytren's contracture. It was great to see mentors, friends and colleagues from around the country and around the world. She even ran into one of her first students who is now applying for his hand surgery fellowship!

Dr. Ochiai had an incredible time at ISHA 2025! He shared insights on gaining access for HipArthroscopy, noting that over 90% of his procedures are performed using just two portals, and took part in a spirited debate on segmental labral reconstruction. His team took home the win (and the trophy!)
To top it off, Dr. Ochiai visited Expo 2025 Osaka, where his cousin Yoichi Ochiai hosted him at the stunning “null²（ヌルヌル）” pavilion: a remarkable blend of art, science, and imagination. An unforgettable week of learning, connection, and inspiration!
