This January we celebrate 7 years since Hometown Health opened. If I had to choose one word that represents the foundation this clinic was built on, it would be "simple." The idea of removing the confusion and complications that have overtaken healthcare, and getting it back to a simple doctor-patient relationship. A practice based on real people, real relationships, real communication and real medical recommendations. So, this article that I saw today was a good reminder that I thought I would share. Thank you to everyone who trusts us with your health, and may you all have a happy, healthy New Year.

If you want to improve your health in 2026, experts say keep it simple. Be cautious of health and wellness fads. There are no magic fixes.

Hometown Health is excited to announce that we’ve been voted as the Best Family Medicine Clinic in Mansfield/Arlington for the 4th consecutive year by Living Magazine Arlington-Mansfield. Thanks to all of our patients, and friends throughout the community, for your support. And, thanks to my amazing staff for creating such a warm environment for our patients.

I hope that this continued recognition helps show that Direct Primary Care is a model where patients get the more personalized care they desire, and doctors can enjoy practicing medicine.

Today marks the official 6 year anniversary of Hometown Health. It’s my annual reminder to thank everyone who has trusted us with their healthcare over the years. And to thank all of those who supported my dream to do something different in opening my own family medicine clinic, especially Dana Marley Charles. A time to thank my staff, both past and present, for serving our patients well. And, a time to remind you that if you’re frustrated with the “healthcare system,” then our office can provide a fresh alternative to the status quo.

And, we got a new sign. One that can be seen despite all of the construction.

As of today, we are officially launching something new here at Hometown Health – Fit Club!

Fit Club is a community of our patients, and their friends and family, who are interested in getting, and staying, fit. It’s designed to provide support, education and accountability for all of us who are struggling to stay engaged with our health.

Fit Club will be a private community, through Facebook, where we will regularly post educational and encouraging posts, where all of our members can engage and support one another, and where we will coordinate monthly challenges, to help you meet your own, personal, health goals.

We will also have monthly in-person meet-ups, centered around exercise, nutrition, or other healthy lifestyle activities. There will be prize drawings for anyone who participates in our monthly challenges, and each member will receive a Fit Club T-shirt after they’ve completed three monthly challenges.

Participation in Fit Club is $10 per month for Hometown Health members, and $20 per month for non-members, so feel free to invite friends and family.

Hometown Health celebrated our 5th anniversary this week with a commemorative ribbon cutting with the Mansfield Business Alliance and a party to thank all of our friends and supporters. Besides just having fun, we also collected food and cash donations for Mansfield Mission Center (I can’t believe how much was donated, but the pictures don’t do it justice).

A special thanks to my staff, both past and present. And thanks to Emerald Door Bakery and Kingdom Graphics for our cookies and t-shirts, and to Pine Cove Dental for contributing to our prize giveaway.

It’s hard to believe, but today marks the 5th anniversary of Hometown Health. It’s hard to believe that a practice designed to be different could survive in today’s healthcare environment. It’s hard to believe that we thrived through a pandemic and beyond. It’s hard to believe that hundreds of patients and local small businesses would trust us with their medical needs. It may be hard to believe, but here we are, continuing to provide high quality care, with a commitment to access, communication and simplicity.

Thanks to everyone who has supported and encouraged me along the way, but specifically to Dana Marley Charles for never doubting what seems so hard to believe.
