Reposted from For the week. Go be a blessing. ✊🏿❤ Family in every sense of the word is the priority right now. It makes sense that in times like this our biological families are a big concern but what about your family of friends? Your chosen family? Your community family? Your spiritual families? Right now, family is how we are going to get through this week. The beautiful thing about being in a family is that someone is watching out for you and you, in turn, are watching out for others. No one has to worry about being attacked from the back because their brother and/or sister is standing watch and holding the strap.
Last week we saw a lot of tragic, selfish behavior. People taking a "survive-at-all cost" mentality and it showed in the hoarding of resources, the disregard for others' well being, the total dismissal of our elders and the "I got mine, you better get yours" attitude. Unfortunately, we had to get that out of our system and come face-to-face with the contradicting display of family. We can't survive by competition- regardless what colonizer and capitalistic beliefs try to show us. Survival is done through collaboration. Hopefully we have the familial support (in whatever capacity) to show us how useful and necessary collaboration and compassion are.
S**t is stressful. I get it. But stress wants us to close up, shut in and shut down. The news, the government and the world seems like it's a feast of worry but that fruit isn't sweet to the spirit. When it comes to feeding your Spirit, chew the meat (information, advice, knowledge, awareness) and spit out the bones (stress, anguish, worry, anxiety, misinformation and panic). This week, part of feeding your Spirit also includes using this time to ground yourself when you feel overwhelmed and channel that energy into something productive. A good idea is to take stock of your position in life right now. Before Covid-19, were you on track to achieve your goals? Did you fall off the wagon? Did you take a wrong turn and need to course-correct? Did your plan not work as expected and you need to re-evaluate? Or, were you kicking ass and now you need to rework somethings for a post-covid world? Use this week to rework, re-look and release the old parts of your vision. Incorporate new tactics that give you a renewed sense of stability (especially financial stability) knowing that you can't count on institutions to do it for you anymore. ✊🏿❤
