Last month, Shandree, our Outreach and Administrative Manager, and Sue, one of our fabulous volunteers, represented Rock Recovery at YHELP! and the City of Alexandria's "All Things Teen Wellness" event!

This event offered the chance for area teens and their families to connect with and learn more about mental health organizations around the region. Teens were given the chance to learn about Rock Recovery's individual and group therapy options, including our Teen Bridge to Life program!

Thank you so much for having us - we had a blast! đź’š

September is coming to a close and Fall festivities are in full swing - often filled with candy, dinners, and desserts galore.

Bulimia is one of the most common eating disorders - yet there are many myths surrounding this deadly disease, particularly when it comes to food and food consumption.

Our partners over at Equip Health have written an excellent blog post breaking down four common myths surrounding bulimia, and how we can all work together to cut through the misconceptions and make sure we are properly informed as we head into the Fall season.

Check out the blog at the below and share with a friend or loved one to help prepare for the upcoming holiday season! 🧡

GLP-1 medications (like Ozempic & Wegovy) are often talked about as a “quick fix” for weight loss, but this narrative can also fuel harmful weight stigma and reinforce the idea that smaller bodies are automatically healthier.
Today’s post breaks down what GLP-1s are, and why the conversation around them matters for recovery, body image, and dignity at every size.
Swipe through to learn more, and join us this week as we work to challenge weight bias with compassion and truth. đź’š

This week is

Weight stigma - what is it exactly, and why is it so harmful?

According to the American Psychological Association, 42% of US adults report that they have experienced some form of weight stigma. That’s almost half of the entire US population!

Weight stigma prevents people from seeking medical care, seeking support and guidance from people to lean on, and contributes to an overall negative perception of one’s identity and self. We invite you to share this post with your community, and help us educate others on the ins and outs of weight stigma.

If you or someone you know are in need of support, you are not alone, and we are here to help! We invite you to check out Rock Recovery’s group therapy programming at the link in our bio, and share in your healing journey with others around you who get exactly what you are going through.

Together this , we can break the bias, and YOU can find healing! đź’š

Calling all clinicians and mental health professionals! Join Rock Recovery for our upcoming virtual presentation, "Cultural Humility in Practice."

Eating disorders impact individuals across all cultural backgrounds, yet Hispanic and Latine communities face unique barriers to accessing timely and appropriate care. Through data and discussion, we’ll uncover the realities of eating disorders in these communities, and equip providers with practical strategies to break down their own biases, while building up trust and understanding so that they can help their clients heal.

Register today at the link below. We hope to see you there!
