🐾 Meet Winnie! This sweet girl came to us with swelling near her rear end, and Dr. Montoya quickly diagnosed her with an a**l gland abscess, an infection that happens when the duct from the a**l gland becomes blocked, causing it to swell and fill with fluid.

The good news? Winnie was treated the same day and went home feeling so much better! 🏠❤️

A**l gland issues are more common in dogs than most people realize.
Signs to watch for include:
🔸 Scooting on the floor
🔸 Licking or biting near the tail
🔸 Swelling or redness near the rear end
🔸 Discomfort when sitting

Regular a**l gland expression can help prevent issues from developing, ask your vet if your pup might benefit!

Happy Veterinary Receptionist Week to the incredible team who keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes (and right at the front desk).

You’re the warm welcome, the reassuring voice, and the steady presence for pet owners who just want to know their pet is going to be okay. From check ins to phone calls to everything in between, you make a bigger impact than you probably realize every single day.

To our VEHA reception team, thank you for the kindness, patience, and care you show to every pet and person who walks through our doors.

You are such an important part of what we do!

Trippy’s story started on a golf course but not in the way you’d hope.

He was found with a severely injured hind leg and brought in for evaluation, where Dr. Johns diagnosed an open tibial dislocation. Because the injury exposed the bone, the risk of infection was extremely high, and repairing the leg would have required multiple procedures with no guarantee of success. In cases like this, amputation is often the safest and most compassionate option to relieve pain and prevent further complications.

Trippy underwent surgery later that evening with no complications and what happened next is our favorite part. He went home the very same day!

Cat's are incredibly resilient and most adapt to life on three legs faster than you’d expect! For Trippy, this wasn’t the end of anything, it was the beginning of a healthier, happier life.

Not every injury looks serious until it is.
Jax came in after a cut to his paw that just wouldn’t stop bleeding. While he was otherwise stable, wounds like this still require proper cleaning, closure, and pain management to heal correctly.

After treatment and sutures, Jax was able to head home the very same day, on the road to healing (with a little less running around for now)!

Milo’s owner brought him in because he just wasn’t acting like himself.
No energy, not finishing his food, and a few episodes of vomiting, nothing extreme, but enough to raise concern.

On exam and imaging, Milo was found to have gastroenteritis, an inflammation of the stomach and intestines that can be caused by diet changes, something they ate, or underlying irritation.
While not always an emergency, it can escalate quickly without treatment.

Milo was started on fluids, anti-nausea medication, and supportive care and within a day, he was already feeling much more like himself 💛

Sometimes it’s not obvious what’s wrong but you know your pet best. If something feels off, even slightly, it’s always worth getting checked out.

That’s exactly what our urgent care is here for! Tag your neighbor in the comments below and share + save for awareness!

April is Heartworm Awareness Month 🫀🐾
Heartworm disease is spread through mosquito bites (yes, even indoors), and early signs can be easy to miss things like a mild cough, low energy, or just “not quite themselves.” That’s where early care matters.

Catching potential concerns sooner can make a big difference in treatment and outcome and in many cases, heartworm disease is entirely preventable with routine medication. If something feels off, even slightly, it’s always worth getting checked out.

We’re here for those in between moments when it may not be an emergency, but you know your pet isn’t 100%

Luna’s mom brought her in after noticing she just wasn’t acting like herself. Low energy, not finishing her food (which is very unlike her), and a few episodes of vomiting throughout the day. Nothing super dramatic…but enough to feel like something was off.

At VEHA, Luna was examined and diagnosed with acute gastritis (aka an upset, inflamed stomach, think doggy version of “I really shouldn’t have eaten that” 🥴).

The good news? Cases like Luna’s are exactly what our urgent care is here for, concerning symptoms that aren’t quite full blown emergencies, but definitely shouldn’t be ignored.

With anti-nausea medication, fluids, and a little rest, Luna was feeling more like herself in no time (and probably already plotting her next snack 😜 🐾).

💡 Signs your pet may need urgent care:
• Vomiting or diarrhea lasting more than a day
• Sudden loss of appetite
• Low energy or “just not themselves” behavior
• Mild dehydration or tummy sensitivity

It may not always be an emergency but it is worth getting checked out. Catching things early = faster recovery and fewer complications 💙
We’re so glad you’re feeling better, Luna 🐶✨

🐾 March is National Pet Poison Prevention Month
A good reminder that not all toxin exposures look like emergencies but they still deserve attention!

Sometimes it starts small: mild vomiting, drooling, low energy, or your pet just not acting like themselves after getting into something they shouldn’t.
That’s where we come in.

At VEHA, we’re here for those in between moments, when it’s not quite an emergency, but definitely not something to ignore.

✔️ Possible toxin exposure
✔️ Mild or early symptoms
✔️ You just want peace of mind

We’ve got you.

📍 Walk in for same day urgent care and let’s get ahead of it before it becomes something more serious.
