Happy International Day of the Girl!

Today, we celebrate the resilience and potential of every girl in the communities we serve in rural Uganda.
At REACH for Uganda, we believe that education is the key to unlocking a brighter future. That’s why we’re committed to ensuring all girls have access to resources and opportunities where they can thrive. Whether in school or their communities, we know that girls can dream big and reach their full potential.
We cheered on our students in Teenage Pregnancy Awareness Marathon in Mbale City and enjoyed all the festivities about International Day of the girl.
We're thrilled to learn that our

Partner She's the First have come together to Merge with Girl Rising! This is fantastic news for our girls and we congratulate both organizations on this move. What this means for our girls is expanded support network and certainly strong together! Arlington Academy of Hope and REACH for Uganda are thrilled to be part of this net work. Come join next Sunday and learn more. https://us.givergy.com/REACHforUgandaGala2025/?controller=home

Our health clinics offer critical support to both children and the wider community. In many areas in rural Uganda, immunizations are not readily available, and preventable diseases spread easily. Access to proper healthcare is often limited by distance, cost, or lack of funding. That’s why one of our key priorities is providing vital healthcare services that are affordable and accessible. This helps keep children in school and strengthens the overall health of the community.

We operate two Beatrice-Tierney Health Clinics to deliver these essential services. Each year, we serve thousands of patients, and with your support, we can reach even more.

Today, we celebrate International Youth Day! Educating and empowering youth is one of our main goals. Uganda has one of the youngest and fastest-growing populations in the world. Education and healthcare are crucial for ensuring positive trajectories for these youth. At REACH, we provide students in underserved communities with access to quality education with a curriculum designed to help them develop skills to become leaders in their communities and workplaces. We also provide healthcare to all of our students and other community members in the villages we serve. Our holistic approach to youth-focused development allows communities to reach their highest potential.

REACH’s commitment to our youth is central to our mission and programming. To learn more about and support our health and educational programs, please visit www.reachforuganda.org.

🎉Congratulations to Hellen Timbe Nabutuwa for being the first female doctor from AAH!🎉

Hellen has graduated from Kampala International University with her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees. She has been with AAH since primary school, where she has been supported by her sponsors Bruce Leighton, Doreen Jones, and Beatrice Tierney. Additionally, she was supported by She’s the First, who help to empower women and provide mentorship for women and girls.

We are incredibly proud of all that Hellen has accomplished and cannot wait to see what the future holds for her. We know she is on to great things, and the sky is the limit. Congratulations, Hellen!

In July, a group of 9 teens traveled from Virginia to visit our schools in Uganda. In the villages, our teens launched our annual reading challenge, where students at AJS and MJS get colorful booklets to encourage enthusiastic reading in Uganda. The teens had an awesome time reading to the students and helping them fill out their new challenge booklets. Also in the villages, the teens went on a hike to Larso Falls despite the very muddy trails. Many of the teens joined the students in playing in the waterfalls.

Along with that, some of the teens assisted in the health clinics. At AJS, the teens were able to tour and assist the doctors in the maternity clinic, which is available to women in the community. Lastly, for some fun at the end of the trip, our teens traveled to Murchison Falls for a safari tour. It was there that the teens were able to see so many animals, like elephants, giraffes, buffalo, and lions.

On July 5, we held the official opening ceremony for our newest project, Hawthorne-Scribner High School Bududa. Building a secondary school has been a long-standing dream, and now that dream has become a reality. What once was just a vision is now a thriving campus with two dormitories, a dining hall, a classroom block, and a nearly completed science block. We were honored to have the REACH Board of Directors, Founders John and Joyce Wanda, and several supporters from the United States join us for the celebration. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has donated to make HSHS the beautiful building that it is today. In January, we opened our doors to our first class of S1, S2, and S5 students: the first of a new generation to learn, grow, and thrive with us at HSHS.

While Phase 1 is a major milestone, it’s just the beginning. With your continued support, we can bring Phase 2 to life—expanding the school’s facilities and reaching even more students. Together, let’s keep building a brighter future at Hawthorne Scribner. To learn more and make a donation, please visit reachforuganda.org. 🇺🇬✏

This spring we had the pleasure of partnering with students from Georgetown University’s Master of Finance program. The students developed fundraising and marketing strategies for REACH, tailored to today’s rapidly evolving development landscape.

A huge thank you to Professor Allan Ammer, Brandon Boyle, Professor Jim Angel, and the dedicated students who worked tirelessly on this project. Their research provided us with valuable new resources and pathways to explore expanded fundraising and sponsorship opportunities. We deeply appreciate their commitment and effort in producing such a comprehensive and impactful project.
