Did you know there are natural, galactagogues (lactation enhancers) in our foods?

When I gave birth to my first, I struggled for 7 long months to feed them from my body. I had friends and aunties generously donating their milk, we supplemented, I tried every product I could find to increase my supple, rented a hospital grade pump and pumped religiously after every feed. I even saw 12 different lactation consultants. I did extensive testing and just assumed my body wasn’t capable.

Then with my second, my mom made me these delicious lactation snacks and it changed everything. My babe was tummy-sensitive so we had to stick to a soy-free, dairy-free diet and these were easily adapted to that, and they taste DELICIOUS.

For the past year I have been making and gifting these to all my clients and friends. The re-orders kept pouring in and now I sell and deliver them all over the PNW! I am so grateful to be able to support parents in their lactating goals and pass on one of my favorite tools. ❤️🍼🥛🧑‍🍼

With all the formula recalls and convo about how to protect babies this past couple weeks, I wanted to have an easy guide to reference on formula to use with clients and include in my doula training this week.
This can be confusing for families, as the CDC and WHO guidelines aren't always reflected on the packaging or instructions on the formula, particularly on the cans of powder (which contains the biggest risk to contamination due to the powder dehydration process).
Nevertheless, doulas strive to create the safest feedings possible, and also try to give parents instructions that are going to be as safe as possible for their tiny humans.
The CDC has a lovely pdf on this as well, but it is really detailed, and I wanted one highlighting the storage hours at a glance.
We love to nurture babies, and to help parents feed them confidently. When formula is used, we want the baby to be comforted, snuggled, and protected, just like when parents breastfeed their babies. This is just one way we can help, by preparing and storing milk and keeping those vulnerable new immune systems protected!

Here's the full CDC pdf: https://www.cdc.gov/nutrition/infantandtoddlernutrition/formula-feeding/infant-formula-preparation-and-storage.html
