The article I read today highlighted the profound importance of female friendships, pointing out that women fear loneliness even more than a cancer diagnosis. This startling comparison made me reflect on my own circle of friends. I have a small, close-knit group—some I've known for over 20 years and others for just 5 years—but the one thing they all have in common is that they make me a better person. A better mom, parent, grandparent, and human.
As a therapist, I help women dealing with friendship trauma—betrayal, jealousy, indifference—and I always ask, "What value does this friendship bring to your life? Can you find this value elsewhere without the drama?" As we move into 2025, I challenge you to take a closer look at your friendships. Celebrate the ones that bring positivity and growth, and reevaluate those that don’t. A huge shout-out to my friends—thank you for putting up with me. I love y’all.
