For Eric Smith, DO, FACOI, and Hye Rim Smith, DO, FACOI, osteopathic internal medicine is a family affair, and a journey they’ve taken on together. Another step they took together was becoming ACOI Fellows at ACOI 2025, a testament to how much they value the osteopathic internal medicine community as a whole, and ACOI in particular. “It’s a tradition,” Hye Rim said. “We want to contribute to leading and continuing this organization.”

“Dr. Still practiced in an era without patient portals, quality dashboards, or pop-ups reminding us that we have one unsigned order from three days ago. … And yet, if he were standing beside us today, I suspect he would recognize something familiar. Beneath the layers of technology, protocols, and processes, the heart of osteopathic medicine remains exactly where he left it: focused on the person, not merely on the problem list.”

This month, ACOI President Damon L. Baker, DO, MACOI, shares his thoughts on practicing in the intersection of modern technology and traditional patient-centered values. Read the rest of Dr. Baker’s article: https://www.acoi.org/blog/if-still-were-here-hed-probably-ask-us-log-portal
