A whole year later…✨

Here you see me holding this sweet girl moments after her birth. And now, one year later, I’m standing beside her again at the birth of her mama’s dear friend.

This is the heart of midwifery. It’s not just about delivering babies , it’s about building bonds that last beyond the birth. We become family. We laugh, we cry, we show up. Again and again.

Watching our clients’ babies grow, celebrating their milestones, and being invited back into their lives is the greatest honor.

Happy 1st birthday, sweet girl. Thank you for reminding me why I do this work. 💛

Today I sit in reflection as one of my doula babies celebrates his birthday. 💛

On June 16, 2021, I had the honor of supporting Hannah and Amani as their doula for the birth of their first baby, their first home birth. They labored together with such strength and grace, and when that sweet baby boy entered the world, it was nothing short of magical.

Fast forward to 2024, I had the privilege of walking with them again. This time as their midwife. To be invited back into their lives for such a sacred moment is one of the greatest honors in this work.

This is what I mean when I say clients become family. We share more than just a birth space . We share laughter, tears, prayers, trust, and transformation. We witness each other’s growth, and in those most vulnerable and powerful moments, a bond is created that doesn’t fade with time. I watched them become a family, they watched me become a midwife.

Happy birthday, sweet Amari. 💙
And to Hannah and Amani — thank you for welcoming me into your story, again and again. You’ll always be part of mine.

Fathers today we celebrate you!!! The diaper changers, the midnight rockers, the baby-wearing, bottle-warming, first-time fathers stepping into your new role with love and intention. Here are a few tips for the new fathers out there:

Get Hands-On Early
Bath time, burping, diaper duty just dive in.! The more involved you are, the more confident you’ll feel.

Be Present, Not Perfect
Your baby doesn’t need perfection , just your love, patience, and presence.

Support Your Partner
Whether it’s making meals, running interference with visitors, or just offering a listening ear. Your support matters.

Talk to Your Baby
Your voice is comforting, even if you’re just narrating your lunch. It helps with bonding and language development.

Check In With Yourself
You matter too. New fatherhood can bring up a lot .Don’t ignore your mental and emotional health.

Find Your Village
Connect with other dads. Build a support system that gets it — because you shouldn’t have to figure it out alone.

You’re not just helping out. You’re parenting. Your presence is powerful.

Happy Father’s Day 💙

You will always hold a special place in my heart as the very first baby I delivered as a licensed midwife—what a beautiful beginning.
Sweet baby girl, you are so deeply loved by your midwives, and already wrapped in prayer. From the moment your life began, God’s hand was upon you. You were fearfully and wonderfully made, and your birth was nothing short of a divine moment.

To this incredible family—thank you for trusting me, and for believing in the calling that God placed over my life.

Baby girl, may you always walk in the confidence that you are chosen, called, and cherished by the One who formed you. May your life be a living testimony of His goodness.

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights.” – James 1:17

Today marks one month of walking fully in this calling — and what a month it’s been. In these first 30 days as a midwife, I’ve had the honor of welcoming 7 babies earthside as the primary midwife, and supported 2 additional families as an assistant.

✨ 4 first-time moms
✨ 3 growing their families with baby #2
✨ 1 transfer before labor (with everyone healthy and well)
✨ 0 postpartum transfers 🙌🏾
✨ Labors ranging from 15 hours to a powerful 2-hour whirlwind
✨ 3 babies in 24 hours, and another 3 in less than 48 hours (talk about tired!)

I’m deeply thankful for my team at . Your guidance, encouragement, and steady presence have made this transition not only possible, but joyful. Thank you for holding me as I step fully into this work.

If this is how the first month feels, I can’t wait to see what unfolds next. Here’s to the journey ahead — and the many stories still waiting to be written. 💛

Today is my first International Day of the Midwife as a licensed midwife.

I’m overwhelmed—in the best way. Grateful. Grounded. Called.

Midwifery is not just a profession for me—it’s a sacred offering. It’s how I serve, how I honor my community, and how I build the world I want to see.

There’s a saying: “It takes a village to raise a child.”
But it also takes a village to raise a mother.
To protect birth.
To bring families home safely.

I get to be a part of that village.
I get to hold space for life to begin and healing to happen.
I get to stand in the gap where care has been lacking and offer something different—something whole.

This work is about legacy.
About reclaiming tradition.
About making sure our stories, our births, and our bodies are honored.

To my clients, my mentors, my ancestors, and everyone who has walked with me—thank you. You are my village.

Happy International Day of the Midwife.
And to every midwife out there: I see you, I’m with you, and I’m proud to stand beside you.

One of the most beautiful parts of midwifery care is that your baby never goes far from you. From the very first breath, they are held in your arms, skin to skin, surrounded by love and calm.

When it’s time for the newborn exam, there’s no rushing or whisking baby across the room. Instead, it happens right there beside you—on the bed, within arms reach. You’re not just a bystander—you’re part of every moment. Every detail is explained with gentleness and intention, honoring both you and your baby.

It’s a peaceful rhythm. No bright lights. No cold scales first. Just your baby, your body, and your midwife who understands that this moment matters. 📸: .bridgewater mama:

Ever noticed that intense shaking some people experience right after giving birth? It’s totally normal—and usually caused by a rush of adrenaline as your body processes the magnitude of what it just accomplished. But here’s a simple trick that can actually help bring your nervous system back into balance:

Stick out your tongue.

That’s right. Gently sticking out your tongue can help shift your body from “fight or flight” into “rest and digest.” It may sound silly, but this act activates the parasympathetic nervous system, signaling your body to slow down, breathe deeper, and release tension.

It’s a practice borrowed from somatic and trauma-informed care—reminding your body that it’s safe now. You’ve done the hard work. You’re here. Baby’s here. You can come back into your body.

Try it during that shaky postpartum moment. Combine it with slow, deep breathing, and see if your body responds. It’s not magic—it’s just the brilliance of our nervous systems and how small actions can help us ground ourselves.

You’re not alone in those shakes—and you don’t have to power through them. Your body deserves a gentle “thank you” after the work of birth.

Let your tongue hang out a little. You might be surprised how much it helps. 😂😂

If you ask me, six weeks fly by in the blink of an eye. It feels like just yesterday we were celebrating the news that you were expecting, prepping for that very first appointment, then standing in awe of your strength on the day your sweet girl arrived. And now—here we are.

Thank you for letting me soak up the cuddles and be part of such a sacred season in your life. What a gift it’s been to walk alongside you—not only as a part of your birth team but also as someone who’s been able to witness your incredible transformation into motherhood. You are truly a beautiful mama, and I’m beyond grateful that I get to continue walking with you and watching your sweet dove grow.

Did you know that your baby can be born with the amniotic sac still intact? This is called an en caul birth, and it’s a beautiful, rare occurrence where the sac remains unbroken as the baby enters the world.

Despite what movies and TV shows portray, your water does not have to break for labor to progress. In fact, the amniotic sac can stay intact all the way until birth, providing a cushion for the baby and potentially easing their transition earthside.

✨ Your body is designed for this. ✨

Sometimes, the sac breaks on its own during labor, sometimes it’s intentionally ruptured (amniotomy), and sometimes, like in an en caul birth, it stays intact until baby arrives. None of these scenarios are inherently wrong—but it’s important to know that intervention isn’t always necessary.

Birth is diverse. It unfolds in many ways, and each variation is a reminder that our bodies are powerful and capable. So if you’re waiting for labor to start and your water hasn’t broken—don’t stress. Your body and baby are working together in perfect timing.

Instead of clamping and cutting, a cord burning ceremony offers a gentle, symbolic way to separate baby from the placenta. Rooted in tradition and intention, this practice uses the element of fire to slowly seal the umbilical cord—honoring the life-giving connection that sustained baby in the womb.

The slow burning of the cord signifies a peaceful and gradual separation from the placenta, which has nourished the baby throughout pregnancy.

In some traditions, fire represents purification, protection, and transformation, making this an intentional and sacred act.

As the flame burns, we acknowledge the journey—from womb to world, from connection to independence. A beautiful reminder that every birth is a sacred rite of passage.
