Join us for Lucido Book Club (Part 1) on May 28 from 12–1 pm at Fox & Fable Bookstore in downtown Arlington 💗

Over the next 4 weeks, we’re reading 'An Ordinary Age' by Rainesford Stauffer — a thoughtful exploration of growing up, feeling behind, and learning to navigate the pressure to be exceptional in modern life.

Whether you’ve finished the book, just started, or simply want to join the conversation, you are welcome here. We’ll be gathering for an open, respectful discussion centered around connection, reflection, and community.

Can’t make it in person? Send us your questions and follow along with our recap video on social media.

Sometimes improving quality of life comes down to simple, thoughtful innovation.

I recently learned about the “P-Funnel” by FORG Medical — a bedside urinary device designed for women with decreased mobility or high fall risk. Think of it as a bedside urinal for women, using gentle on-demand suction to reduce the need to transfer to the bathroom or bedside commode.

This can be incredibly helpful for patients who are continent and aware of when they need to urinate, but have difficulty safely getting to the bathroom independently. Examples might include:
• Post-operative recovery (like hip fractures or joint surgery)
• Fall risk
• Weakness or decreased mobility
• Temporary or long-term mobility limitations

It can support both independent self-care and caregivers assisting loved ones at home.

What makes this story even more meaningful is that the device was created by a biomedical engineer and his wife, a nurse, after seeing firsthand how much his own mother could have benefited from something like this. Preventing falls and preserving dignity matters.

Innovations like this are a great reminder that patient-centered care isn’t always about something complicated — sometimes it’s about making everyday life safer and more manageable.
