Since 1987, CAREERS has been dedicated to successfully helping people with learning, developmental, psychiatric, and physical disabilities find and maintain employment. Together, we're enhancing our shared mission to empower people through compassionate care, meaningful support, and opportunities to achieve their fullest potential. Welcome, Dr. Russell H. Tobe, Medical Director and Psychiatrist at Opengate!

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Russell H. Tobe as Opengate’s new Medical Director and Psychiatrist. In this dual role, Dr. Tobe will integrate his expertise in medical care and psychiatry to enhance the quality of life, health, and overall well-being of our residents with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Dr. Tobe plans to implement a collaborative care approach that emphasizes communication and person-centered care to ensure each resident receives comprehensive and compassionate support.

“I believe that the most effective model of care involves active input and integration from everyone in the resident’s life, including residential and program staff members, behavior specialists, residence managers, the direct care team, family members, and, of course, the individual themselves,” said Dr. Tobe.

Dr. Tobe earned his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in 2005. He completed his adult psychiatry residency at Columbia University Medical Center and the New York State Psychiatric Institute in 2009, followed by a child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship at the New York State Psychiatric Institute and New York-Presbyterian Hospital – Columbia/Cornell in 2011.

A Distinguished Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, Dr. Tobe served as Consulting Psychiatrist to the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) and as Medical Director of Region 3 Crisis Services for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.

Dr. Tobe has received numerous teaching and service awards, presented at national and international conferences, and published many peer-reviewed articles. He is deeply committed to understanding human development and advancing effective treatments.

We are proud to welcome Dr. Tobe to the Opengate community and look forward to the positive impact his leadership and expertise will have on the health and well-being of our residents.

Our annual Awards event, held this past weekend at Anthony's Lake Club, was a soaring success! We had fun with friends and lots of dancing, followed by an exciting Awards ceremony! It was a fantastic experience for all who attended. We are so proud of the people we support who received awards for their accomplishments this year. We were also proud to introduce our incoming Medical Director, Dr. Russell Tobe, and welcome him to our team, and excited to share the news of Opengate’s partnership with CAREERS Support Solutions.
