What to eat & drink before, during, and after runs—especially if you're running longer than 60 minutes!

If you want steady energy, fewer crashes, and faster recovery, carbs and hydration are non-negotiable. Let’s break it down:

🕑 2 Hours Before Your Run
🍽️ Balanced meal with complex carbs + protein + fluids

✔️ Grilled chicken & avocado sourdough sandwich with spinach, tomato, and a drizzle of olive oil or hummus. Pair with berries or watermelon.

-OR-

✔️ Scrambled eggs with roasted sweet potatoes and sautéed spinach, plus a slice of sourdough toast with almond butter or jam

💧 Drink 16–20 oz of water or an electrolyte drink with either option

🕐 30–60 Minutes Before
⚡ Fast-digesting carbs only
✔️ 1–2 dates (optionally with a small smear of nut butter)
💧 Sip another 8 oz of water or low-sugar electrolyte drink

👉 Fast fuel to keep you energized—without the GI distress.

🏃‍♀️ During Your Run (if > 60 min)
⏱️ Aim for ~30g carbs/hour + hydration

This week, we wrapped up the final session of our "Jump Higher. Land Safer. Dominate the Court" volleyball performance workshop with an incredible group of athletes and coaches from various clubs and schools in our community. HUGE shout-out to Navy Women's Volleyball for showing up and showing out as our amazing demonstrators for this event!

Led by Dr. Maddie, the event took a deep dive into the biomechanics of vertical jumping—but with a twist (literally). 🌪️
Too often, jump training only focuses on strength or explosion. We challenged that model by teaching the role of human rotation and the spiral nature of the body in unlocking more powerful, efficient, and repeatable vertical jumps.

We also covered:
✔️ How to absorb landing forces safely (and why most injuries happen on the way down)
✔️ The hidden importance of single-leg stability
✔️Reset-based movement prep athletes can use before every match
✔️ Why prevention isn't boring—it's the real performance edge
