Geriatric Care Management and Dementia Consulting

Geriatric Care Management and Dementia Consulting Geriatric Care Management, also called Aging Life Care Professionals. Many folks feel like they are on their own. Fortunately, this is not true.

A Geriatric Care Manager (GCM) is a health and human services specialist who helps families who are concerned about and caring for older relatives. A GCM is an experienced guide and resource for families of elders with chronic needs, including helping those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s or general frailty and dependence. As a credentialed gerontologist and certified geriatric car

e manager who has worked with elders for 20 years I find a common issue is that families are unprepared and unaware as to what to do when an elder becomes ill, has memory problems or is struggling to manage activities of daily living; such as paying bills, keeping up the home or shopping and cooking. Geriatric Care Managers guide families through the passages of aging.

From Justice in Aging: Fighting Senior poverty Through the Law
Last night, the House of Representatives passed a budget resolution mandating trillions of dollars in cuts to Medicaid, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and other programs that help older adults meet their basic needs, all to pay for tax cuts for wealthy Americans and corporations. The final vote was 217-215, largely along party lines, with one Republican voting against the resolution. The vote places Medicaid directly in the crosshairs for unprecedented cuts of at least $880 billion.

"With this vote, lawmakers endorsed taking away Medicaid from millions of Americans, including older adults, all to bankroll tax cuts for the wealthy," said Kevin Prindiville, Executive Director of Justice in Aging. "Thanks to our collective advocacy, the vote to pass this dangerous budget blueprint did not come easily. And we will make sure lawmakers know that voting to enact these cuts would be voting to abandon older Americans."

"The fight to protect Medicaid coverage is far from over," explained Prindiville. "The House and Senate must reconcile their vastly different budget resolutions and develop legislation to implement these cuts. Justice in Aging will be there at every step, fighting to protect Medicaid for the millions of older adults who depend on the program for their health and long-term care. By continuing to work together and uplifting the voices of those who have the most at stake, we can stop cuts to this popular program and ensure Medicaid remains strong for older adults and everyone in America."

Hello Friends and Family,

This weekend is the Walk to End Alzheimer's Silicon Valley and the Walk in Santa Maria, Ca.

For my Bay Area friends I joined my colleagues team this year. The name is Tessie's Dream Team. Here is the link: https://act.alz.org/site/TR?pg=personal&px=13488515&fr_id=17475
Tessie has worked tirelessly for many years to support the Walk and the Mission for a World without Alzheimer's and care for those who live with it. In recent years she has been the Walk Director for Silicon Valley, elevating it's reach, respect and fundraising to help this movement. It is the most impactful Walk in the Nation.

For my Central Coast friends, I have joined Tony Gonzales team called Don't You Forget About Me https://act.alz.org/site/TR/Walk2024/CA-CaliforniaCentralCoast?team_id=862806&pg=team&fr_id=17449
Tony was diagnosed at age 49. Since his diagnosis he has been active to create awareness and support for research and care, while doing all he can to take care of himself and his lovely family. All with good humor. He is inspiring to me and many others.

This year has been particularly eventful in terms of Alzheimer's research to reduce risk, pre-symptomatically diagnose the disease, a new drug to join others to treat the disease for those in the earliest stages and for the care and support for those who have the disease and their families. Your donation can help keep up the momentum.

I understand there is a lot going on in the world that has our attention, for good reason. In many cases the problems are overwhelming and as individuals we experience the despair that comes when we feel we can't make a difference.

But you can make a difference with this issue. I am asking that you consider joining Tessie's Dream Team or Tony's Don't You Forget About Me team and make a donation to continue the good work that is being done. To further our progress for a World Without Alzheimer's Disease. The brain you may be saving is your own.

Thanks for your thoughtful consideration.
Be Well,
Alex
