The opposite of addiction… is CONNECTION.
Powerful take on the suffering in the world.
Think back to the times in your life when you reached for a bottle, a smoke, “comfort foods”, p**n, etc.
In those moments, it’s likely that if you felt truly connected to the world around you and the people in it, you wouldn’t have chosen the vice.
Maybe, what we know about addiction is all wrong?
Maybe, if we chose to step in and CONNECT, rather than stepping out to dissociate and isolate, we would see less suffering in the world.
Political and ideological differences? Choose to connect.
Partner troubles? Choose connection.
Mental and emotional troubles? Choose connection.
Connection to me means ACTION through prayer. When we slow down and ask questions about why we’re feeling a certain way, rather than making assumptions and accusations, the opportunity exists to find common ground. When we find the space to ask God why life is unfolding the way it is, it opens the space for Him to offer insight into our suffering.
In my experience addiction is centered around suffering. That suffering severs our relationship to the outside world and isolates us. As the video above shows, that isolation leads to lack of connection and substance abuse. Abusing a substance to ESCAPE. When connected, escape isn’t necessary.
Disconnected? Stay in your prayers and step back into your life through intentional action.
All love,
Z
