We are pleased to highlight our quarterly Grand Rounds, a continuing education opportunity for clinicians at Acorn Health. These sessions, led in collaboration with our Clinical Advisory Board Chair Dr. Kelsey Ruppel of FTF Behavioral Consulting, focus on the implementation of trauma-informed ABA therapy through skill-based treatment (SBT) and practical functional assessment (PFA). This ongoing clinical training underscores Acorn Health's commitment to advancing the field by staying at the forefront of industry best practices.

A special shoutout to Kristin Carmichael, M.A., BCBA, LBA, one of our talented BCBAs in Knoxville, for her presentation during the most recent Grand Rounds. Kristin shared an inspiring success story where skill-based treatment, combined with universal protocol, helped a young client find his voice to communicate his wants and needs instead of using self-harming behavior or eloping when presented with new situations. The outcome? A child who can verbally request the items he wants and who can now safely walk to the neighborhood park with his family!

We’re so proud of Kristin for her ability to follow her client’s lead in building therapy plans that have positively impacted the lives of this client and his family. 💙💚

Our Acorn Health Cleveland center teamed up with the amazing staff from Kids Dental Center to teach our clients about the importance of good oral hygiene! 🦷✨ They visited our center with fun puppets and spent time talking with the kids about brushing, dental visits, and more. It was such a great experience, and we can’t wait to do it again!

We had an incredible time connecting with fellow clinicians, sharing resources, and celebrating advancements in ABA at the Tennessee Association for Behavior Analysis (TABA) Conference in Nashville, TN! Our team was thrilled to support the community, exchange insights, and meet so many inspiring professionals who remind us of the positive impact ABA therapy can make. ✨

Here were some of our key highlights:

💙 Leadership and Vision – Congratulations to Stephanie Marshall, M.A., BCBA, our Hendersonville Clinical Director, on her election as TABA President! In her inspiring presidential address, she shared: “I believe we can create a community that supports each other and elevates our field as a whole. We have an incredible opportunity to shape the future of TABA, and I’m excited to take this journey with all of you.”

💚 Championing Clinician Well-being – Kelti Owens, M.S., BCBA, presented on the critical topic, "Examining Behavior Analysis Clinicians' Traumatic Experiences in Practice," bringing much-needed awareness to the challenges clinicians face and the importance of fostering a compassionate, supportive environment within ABA.

⭐ Driving Collaboration and Access to Care – Stephanie Marshall, Julia Reed, M.S., BCBA, and fellow leaders joined forces to present "Bridging Gaps in ABA: Collaboration, Public Policy, and Perception in Tennessee." In this session, Julia shared a powerful reminder rooted in our core values: “When we see a need, we step in, speak up, and take action… Let’s work together to shape public perceptions and policies to sustain the quality and ethical integrity of our work.” Together, the presenters explored ways to enhance accessibility, cultural responsiveness, and collaboration within ABA, building a stronger, more inclusive future.
