The Warriors and the Wildcats did it again! Both teams showed their skills and spirit and took home the Loudoun County tournament gold and silver. Team Wildcats came in second place and won silver. Team Warriors won first place and took gold. For the first time, the Loudoun County tournament champion faced off against the Fairfax County tournament champion. In a hard fought battle, Team Warriors prevailed over Fairfax County! Congratulations to both Team Wildcats and Team Warriors!!!

In honor of The Great Gatsby‘s 100 birthday, residents traveled back in time to the 1920s. They dressed in black and white, wore pearls, feathered headbands and fedoras. They entered our speakeasy quietly as to not attract the coppers’ attentions. Due to prohibition, the residents had to whisper the password to receive an alcoholic beverage. Everyone had a “roaring” good time enjoying food, drink and music from the Jazz Age.

A special Adventure for a special resident 😊. Ursula is often spending time in our courtyard reading endless books. But, when children come to visit, she absolutely lights up!

In collaboration with the Gardner School of Ashburn, Ursula had the opportunity to combine her love for books with her heart for children. She read stories to their students and they thanked her by handing her beautiful roses. In return, Ursula delivered teacher survival kits and a gift card the class can use towards needed supplies.

We are so thankful for the opportunities our Adventure Program offers. It’s truly a rewarding gift to all included. ❤️

Today we celebrate Keiro No Hi, Respect for the Aged Day. Originating in Japan in 1947, it is a day to honor senior citizens. On this day, people return home to visit and pay respect to their elders.

Aiko, a Waltonwood resident, helps us organize this event every year. We have iced tea, spring rolls and traditional treats like sake and wagashi. Aiko shares her beautiful kokeshi dolls, blue rose porcelain vase and urishi-e kogei. On Keiro No Hi, we celebrate and honor all residents who call Waltonwood Ashburn home.

In celebration of National Assisted Living Week, we opened an Associate Appreciation Gift Shoppe! Team members had the opportunity to pick up a goodie bag as well as one additional gift. They were able to choose from a gift made either by a resident or a gift from a retail store. To our Ashburn team, we see how much you care and thank you for all you do!

We concluded National Assisted Living Week today with our annual Hawaiian Luau. As always, Chef Eduardo and the culinary team went way above and beyond creating a Luau feast for residents and staff. Hawaiian dancers and musicians provided an authentic festive experience for all who attended. It was a fun and filling way to end a fantastic week.

We hosted our first “Thrift Store Fashion Show” this week!🧥👜 Waltonwood staff from all departments volunteered to participate in the show as models and judges. The top three models were awarded a prize! 🏆

This event was so much fun for both staff and residents alike! So much so, many staff and residents are requesting we host another such event very soon.

We thank and show appreciation to the first responders who provide critical support to Waltonwood Ashburn. Today, we visited Ashburn Fire and Rescue Department, Station 22. We delivered food and took a brief and informative station tour. Thank you for your service to Waltonwood and the Ashburn community. We appreciate you.

Yesterday, the residents channeled their inner kings and queens at our medieval themed dance! 👑 The monthly themed dances have become a hit here at Waltonwood Ashburn. We can’t wait to see what next month has in store for us!
