This is a tick and a poppy seed under a microscope. We removed the tick from Vallie the chihuahua today. Seed ticks will go unnoticed on your dog because there is just no way to see them under the fur. We recommend Nexgard to kill ticks on your dog before they transmit disease.

Let's give a big shout out to Dr. Kingsley!

Dr. Amber Kingsley grew up a Southern Indiana native. She received her undergraduate and professional education at Purdue University, earning a Bachelors of Science in Animal Sciences and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Kingsley is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). She has a special interest in emergency and critical care and preventative medicine.

Dr. Kingsley has loved animals all her life and has been in the veterinary industry since she was 15 years old. She loved learning everything she could about veterinary medicine and saw the joy that compassionate care can bring to the many animals that walk through the door. Her goal as a veterinarian is to improve the lives of people by improving the lives of their pets.

Currently, Dr. Kingsley shares her home with her husband Erik and their Greyhound Mackey. In addition to caring for your pets, Dr. Kingsley enjoys taking Mackey to visit nursing homes and to read to children as a pet therapy dog. When the weather permits, she loves to be outdoors hiking, kayaking, camping, or playing Ultimate Frisbee.

We are very thankful that Dr. Kingsley is on our team!

Hey Gang! Let's give a shout out to Dr. Taylor!

Dr. Taylor joined our affiliate, Waldorf Animal Clinic, in June of 1996 and moved to our Brambleton location in September of 2009.

He received his Bachelors of Arts in Biology from the University of Virginia and earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech. He is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Taylor chose veterinary medicine as a career because he grew up with an understanding of the human-animal bond. Having pets from an early age, he always had the desire to nurture this unique connection. He currently shares his home with his cat, a Shiloh Shepherd, and several saltwater fish and marine creatures.

In his spare time, Dr. Taylor is busy enjoying anything related to the ocean. He is a true water lover, prophesying to be an avid marine aquarist and wake boarder. He is also is the “Performer” of Animal Medical Centers, having played the drums in a band for many years.

Dr. Taylor’s clients have only nice things to say. He has a gentle, yet professional, nature that enables client and patient connections that are meaningful and lasting. The many thank you notes and comments from our clients are constant reminders of why we are so lucky to have Dr. Taylor here to care for our patients.

We LOVE Dr. A!

Dr. Katie was born and raised in Massachusetts. She had a variety of pets growing up including dogs, small mammals, and reptiles. She knew from a very early age that she wanted to someday become a veterinarian. Pursuing her dream, Dr. Katie grew up and attended Tufts Veterinary School near Boston. During her time at Tufts, she worked at the wildlife clinic helping to rehabilitate sick and injured wildlife. She also spent time in South Africa working with a wildlife veterinarian, caring for animals such as elephants, lions, and rhinos.

After veterinary school Dr. Katie completed a one year internship to further her training in the veterinary profession. During her internship she worked at a busy emergency hospital caring for dogs, cats, and exotic animals in Tucson, Arizona. She also helped take care of the local zoo animals. Dr. Katie enjoyed her internship so much she was asked to stay on and continued working in Tucson in general practice medicine for the next two years.

While she loved working in Tucson, Dr. Katie missed her family and friends on the east coast. In 2015 she and her husband relocated to Vermont where she spent 2 years in general practice. They have recently relocated to the Ashburn area following a promotion. While she will always treasure her adventures working with wildlife and zoo animals, she has found she prefers her cat and dog patients who she can interact with awake! She still has a passion for exotic pets and treats small mammals, birds, and reptiles. Her areas of interest include dermatology, dentistry, and infectious disease.

Dr. Katie and her husband share their home with a motley crew of animals. This menagerie includes a one eyed, toothless wonder cat, Zakk, and his sister Gweny. There is also Mr. Buttons, a cat with spinal deformity (manx syndrome) who hops like a rabbit! Let’s not forget her first love, a super snuggly rescue terrier, named Peaches. In Dr. Katie’s spare time she enjoys skiing, riding her bike, and travelling.

Our team wouldn’t be complete without Dr. Katie. She brings a smile to work with her every day. She is easy going and a lot of fun to work with. She has proven herself to be an amazing doctor with an extensive knowledge base and to have a caring and empathetic nature. She brings comfort and compassion to her patients and our clients love her.
