Ashburn Vision Source

Quality eyecare you expect...Old fashioned caring you'll love.

Ashburn Vision Source is a privately owned optometric practice that sees patients of all ages. Both Dr. Hinkle, Dr. Boyles and Dr. Chen see patients for routine vision care as well as for treating and managing eye diseases. We have fun and friendly staff ready to answer questions about insurance or help you pick out a pair of glasses. Our office also co-manages laser vision correction procedures with TLC. We encourage our patients to let us know how we are doing and how we can improve their experience at our office.

Vergence eye movements can be horizontal, vertical, or cyclo.

Eye allergies are what happens when your eyes react to something that irritates them. The eyes produce a substance called histamine to fight off the allergen, and as a result, the eyelids and conjunctiva become red, swollen and itchy.

A cataract starts out small and at first has little effect on your vision. You may notice that your vision is blurred a little, like looking through a cloudy piece of glass or viewing an impressionist painting. If you notice any of these symptoms, don't wait to make an appointment with your doctor.

3D vision, also known as stereo vision, describes the sensation of depth from combining two slightly different pictures seen in each eye into one 3D image. When the eyes don't work together to make this 3D image, it is known as stereo blindness.

People with diabetes or those taking high doses of steroid medications may have a greater risk of developing cataracts. If these risk factors apply to you, call your doctor to assess your risk.

Emotional tears are thought to be unique to humans!

A newborn infant's eyes don't have the ability to focus on near objects. Don't be concerned if your baby doesn't seem to be "focusing" on objects, including your face. It just takes time!

Research suggests that regular physical activity may reduce the risk of developing serious eye diseases and protect your eyes as you age. For one, many eye diseases are linked to other health problems that can be avoided by regular exercise, including high cholesterol levels, diabetes and blood pressure. Regular exercise can help prevent these health issues or mitigate their effects, keeping your eyes healthier in the process.

Even if your child exhibits no symptoms of vision problems, they should have an eye exam by the age of 6 months and again at around age 3 years. Having a complete eye exam before your child enters school allows enough time to catch and correct any vision problems that may interfere with learning.

[12/31/18]   We will be closing at 3pm today and resume regular business hours on Wednesday, January 2nd. Have a fun and safe holiday! Happy new year!

A cataract is a clouding of the eye's natural lens, which lies behind the iris and the pupil. Cataracts are the principal cause of blindness in the world. Vitamins E, C, and Omega-3 may help prevent this disease. See your doctor for more details!

Almost all of your eye care costs may be covered by your insurance. Don't miss out!

[12/24/18]   To our patients and the Ashburn community. Our office will be closed Monday, December 24th through Tuesday, December 25th in order for our team to have time with their families. We hope you all will have a wonderful holiday season with your families, friends, and loved ones!

These age-related changes occur within the proteins in the lens, making the lens harder and less elastic over time. Age-related changes also take place in the muscle fibers surrounding the lens. With less elasticity, the eye has a harder time focusing up close.

Don't miss out on your insurance benefits or FSA dollars!

Wishing you and yours winter cheer!

Without glare, more light passes through your lenses to optimize visual acuity. Anti-glare lenses look nearly invisible — which can draw more attention to your eyes and help you make better eye contact with others.

Use it or lose it!

Binocular Vision describes both eyes aiming simultaneously at the same visual target, working together equally and accurately as a coordinated team.

Use it or lose it - contact us today to get in before the end of the year!

As with any muscle in your body, your eye muscles become fatigued from having to hold a tensed position for too long. Every 20 minutes you should rest your eyes.

Anyone who uses a computer for prolonged periods, whether on the job, at school or at home for enjoyment, is at risk for Computer Vision Syndrome: headaches, burning eyes, red eyes, a stiff neck and other symptoms.

Children with color vision deficiency may perform poorly on tests or assignments that employ color-coded materials. If the student and their parents are unaware of the issue, those students may struggle in class, leading teachers to group them in the wrong academic track at school.

Did you know that you can recycle your contact lens blister packs and used contact lenses?

The ONE by ONE recycling program makes it so easy! Print out a free shipping label at their website or bring them into our office and we will recycle for you!

Help the earth reduce landfill waste and recycle with us!

Eyelashes are replaced every 4-8 weeks.

What is AR coating? Anti-reflective coating, also called "AR coating" or "anti-glare coating," can eliminate reflections from the front and back surfaces of your eyeglass lenses. With reflections gone, more light passes through your lenses to optimize visual acuity with fewer distractions. This helps people see your eyes and facial expressions more clearly, provides sharper vision with less glare when driving at night, and greater comfort during prolonged computer use.

We are always thankful for our amazing patients!

Our brain extracts important information for face recognition principally from the eyes, and secondly from the mouth and nose. This means things like glasses, masks, or anything that obscures the face can drastically change how people see you, and even if they recognize you!

The end of the year is quickly approaching! Make sure you have your eye appointment scheduled.

Regardless of your age or physical health, an annual comprehensive eye exam will help to detect any eye problems at their early stages when they're most treatable.
