Parents of Kids with Disabilities – Please Read! 💙
If you’re a parent of a child with an intellectual or developmental disability (ID/DD), there’s something important you should know about: the Medicaid ID/DD Waiver.
This waiver can help cover lots of helpful services for your child—like:
· Speech therapy 🗣️
· Occupational therapy 🖐️
· Physical therapy 🧠
· In-home help 👩‍🦽
· Respite care (a break for parents!) 💆‍♀️ …and much more, depending on your child’s needs.
👉 Step 1: Contact your local Community Services Board (CSB)—they help families like yours get connected to services. 👉 Step 2: Ask for an assessment. Even if services aren’t available right away, getting your child on the waiting list is super important.
There are a lot of resources included in this waiver that many families don’t even know exist. It might not seem important today—but it could be life-changing down the road.
✅ Start by getting your child evaluated by a doctor or specialist (like a developmental pediatrician or psychologist). ✅ Then reach out to the CSB in your area to begin the process. ✅ Ask questions! The people there can help explain what’s available for your child.
⚠️ Don’t wait until things get harder. Starting early can make a big difference later.
