Door Kicking Is Not Harmless

We’ve received multiple 911 calls in several neighborhoods involving individuals kicking or pounding on front doors before running away. Some people refer to this as the “Door Kick Challenge” or “Ding D**g Ditching,” but what we’re seeing goes beyond simply ringing a doorbell.

When someone forcefully hits a door, especially late at night or while wearing a mask, homeowners have no way of knowing who is outside or what their intent may be. That uncertainty can cause a homeowner to react violently, creating a very dangerous situation for everyone involved.

Parents, please talk with your children. Beyond the obvious dangers, this behavior can result in criminal charges.

For residents: Do not confront anyone at your door. Call 911 and allow deputies to respond.

Let’s stop a prank before someone gets hurt.

In Part 2 I explain the medical mechanisms behind how dehydration and low blood pressure during pregnancy can trigger uterine contractions. I discuss the role of antidiuretic hormone and prostaglandin production, compare different types of IV hydration (lactated ringers vs. normal saline), and share my personal experience receiving fluids in both hospital and outpatient settings to stop my contractions.

In this video I discuss my recent hospitalization for contractions caused by dehydration and explore the fascinating physiology behind it. I explain how elevated progesterone during pregnancy relaxes vascular smooth muscle, lowering blood pressure and systemic vascular resistance, especially in the second and third trimesters. I share my surprisingly low blood pressure reading of 89/72 and compare it to normal values of 120/80 and also touch on the importance of recognizing high blood because preeclampsia as a serious pregnancy
complication. My research team is studying low-dose aspirin use preventatively in older pregnant women. Additionally, I explain how progesterone causes gastrointestinal issues like nausea, vomiting, and delayed gastric emptying in the third trimester, which prevented me from orally rehydrating and contributed to my dehydration-related contractions.

Riley Trainer’s match into psychiatry residency is incredibly well deserved. During her rotation with Dr. Waggel at Improve Life PLLC, she demonstrated an exceptional level of professionalism, dedication, and intellectual curiosity that set her apart from the very beginning. She approached every patient interaction with thoughtfulness and care, consistently showing an ability to connect, listen, and contribute meaningfully to treatment planning. Patients responded positively to her presence, and it was clear she brought both compassion and maturity into the clinical setting.

Throughout the rotation, Riley gained experience across a wide range of psychiatric conditions and took an organized, data-driven approach to her learning. She independently tracked her patient encounters in a structured and visually effective way, reflecting both her attention to detail and her commitment to truly understanding the scope of psychiatric practice. Beyond clinical work, she showed a strong investment in education and team collaboration. She completed multiple projects on clinically relevant topics, including the brain-gut connection, OCD treatment, off-label medication use, GLP-1 agonists, and the relationship between birth control and acne. She not only presented these topics to the team but also reinforced learning through interactive discussions and quizzes, elevating the educational environment for everyone.

Riley consistently demonstrated strong work ethic, punctuality, and professionalism. She integrated seamlessly into the team and was always proactive in seeking opportunities to learn and contribute. Her clinical insight, academic initiative, and genuine compassion for patients make her a standout future physician.

I have no doubt that Riley will thrive in psychiatry residency and continue to grow into an exceptional and thoughtful psychiatrist. Congratulations, Riley, on matching into psychiatry at Virtua Health. This is just the beginning of a very bright future.
