Hi everyone!

I’m Eva, the administrator here at Ashburn Natural Wellness. I was born and raised in Germany and later moved to Virginia, where I earned my degree in Psychology from George Mason University.

I’ve spent much of my career in both childcare and administrative roles, so being part of a practice that focuses on holistic care feels like the perfect fit!

Outside of work, I’m happiest when I’m outdoors. Whether that’s hiking in the mountains, traveling, running, lifting, doing yoga, boxing, or signing up for the next big race (I rarely say no to a challenge!). On the quieter side, I love baking, reading, and volunteering at the local animal shelter.

I love spending time with my boyfriend, friends, and family — both here and back home in Germany. Without the people here who have become my second family, and my family at home, I wouldn’t be the person I am today.

See you around the office!

This month is all about the food! Isabel, our acupuncturist, wanted to share with you all her go to Congee Recipe by 🍚

Congee is a traditional Chinese porridge made from boiling rice in a large amount of water for a long time - it also is an indelible source of protein! This recipe is not only cozy, but packs in 43 grams of protein into one meal💪🏼

Ingredients:
50g medium grain rice (raw)
100g chicken breast (raw, thinly sliced)
250ml low-sodium chicken broth
250ml water
1 clove garlic (smashed)
75g ginger (sliced thin)
1 clove garlic (smashed)
75g green cabbage (thinly sliced)
1 large egg (lightly beaten)
½ green onion (sliced, for garnish)

For marinade:
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tsp cornstarch
½ tsp chicken bouillon
1 tbsp water
Salt and white pepper to taste

Directions:
✸ Prepare the chicken: In a bowl, whisk oyster sauce, cornstarch, bouillon, and water. Add chicken slices and massage until liquid is absorbed. Marinate 15-20 minutes.
✸ Cook the rice base: Rinse rice until water runs clear. Add rice, broth, water, ginger, and garlic to a heavy-bottom pot. Bring to a boil, then lower to medium-low heat. First 10-15 min: stir gently every 5-7 minutes to prevent sticking. Once it thickens: stir gently every 3-4 minutes to avoid burning and help create a creamy texture. Add hot water if it gets too thick.
✸ Add veggies & chicken: Stir in cabbage and the marinated chicken slices. Simmer until cabbage softens and chicken is fully cooked through.
✸ Egg swirl: Slowly drizzle in beaten egg while stirring gently in one direction to create ribbons.
✸ Season with salt and white pepper. Garnish with green onion and serve hot.

Give it a try and let us know what you think!✨

It’s time to start getting in the giving spirit🎁

We are happy to be partnering with LCPS Head Start/STEP Preschool program again this year for their annual toy drive! This program currently serves 420 preschool families in Loudoun County who are living within poverty that struggle to meet basic needs. Their goal is to provide a brand-new toy for each preschool student and gift cards for each family.

This year, we are collecting preschool toys for ages 3–5-year-olds and $25 Walmart or Target gift cards. Stop by our office from November 17 - December 8 and help us give back to our community 🧸

👉🏽As a part of Chiropractic Health Month, Dr. Tiffanie highlights in her blog how musculoskeletal pain can be debilitating.

Chiropractic care has so many health benefits, but it is the most effective in treating musculoskeletal conditions. It is a conservative, non-drug, evidence based approach to treating acute or chronic pain. Effectively managing musculoskeletal related pain will drastically improve a person’s quality of life, health, and well being.

Being experts of the musculoskeletal system, chiropractors have the skills and tools to evaluate, diagnose, and treat such conditions. Using different techniques, chiropractors can address the the dysfunction in joints, muscles, and movement patterns, promoting a better balanced musculoskeletal and nervous system. This will help reduce pain, improve function, and reduce the likelihood of debilitating pain.

🍁As the weather gets cooler, we spend less time outside - which means less fresh air, less natural vitamin D and increased opportunity for little bugs to nestle in (especially if you have kids in school/childcare). It is okay for our children and for us to get sick...but the bounce-back is what we care about!

Are you or your child getting knocked down repeatedly or is it a quick recovery and then you're good for a while? These are important things to look at!

If you suspect you/your child has been exposed to something or is coming down with something, we recommend the following:
✸Remove dairy. Dairy is phlegm-enhancing. This allows the bacteria a nice home to harbor and replicate.
✸Limit sweets and fruit juices-whole fruit is totally fine, but limit the treats-again this sugar feeds the virus and dampens the immune system
✸Encourage outdoor time-even if it is sitting on the front porch reading a book
✸Encourage earlier bedtimes
✸Sprinkle vitamin c powder (can crush tablet or break capsule open) onto a teaspoon of raw (local if possible) honey-take this a couple of times a day
✸Incorporate fermented foods if able: sauerkraut and bone stock/broth are great!
✸If you are able, try not to send your child back to school still run-down. This leaves their immune system vulnerable to pick-up the next bug AND this is what begins the cascade of sickness after sickness with children.
✸One last little tip: if your child becomes congested, you can gently tug on the bottom part of their ear lobe to encourage fluids to drain and therefore help prevent ear infections.
✸If you like supplements, you can incorporate acerola (great form of vitamin c) and zinc. Trace minerals are another great way to support your body! You can purchase trace mineral products or use electrolyte packets such as LMNT

Acupuncture, Chiropractic and Massage can be amazing ways to support your body through the fall and winter!

Here are some of the more common complaints that Dr. Tiffanie sees in our office when working with prenatal patients👇

✸Sciatica: Can be the cause of pain in the low back, glutes and hips and tightness in the hamstrings and calves
✸Round ligament/pubic bone pain
✸Pain on sides of hips while sleeping at night

And more! These complaints not only highlight areas of the body that need to be mobilized and strengthened, but they also give us specific insight as to how we can help you optimize the structure and function of your pelvis in preparation for delivery.

It is common for our body to highlight underlying aches and pains during pregnancy. We create habits and move and sit in the same type of way for years and years and then the physical changes of the body during pregnancy reveal the lack of mobility/stability that these habits have created.

This may be frustrating, but we have good news! Dr. Tiffanie has been trained to properly incorporate symmetry and stability back into the body (during pregnancy as well as outside of pregnancy) AND once we implement these easy changes, your body will WANT to heal and feel so much better.

There is no better time (other than before pregnancy 🤪) than during pregnancy to address these complaints. Get your body feeling GREAT before baby arrives. You will reap the rewards for years to come 🌻
