Pugh Funeral Home

Pugh Funeral Home Pugh Funeral Home is a full service, funeral home and crematory serving Asheboro, Randleman, Troy, a Pugh Funeral Home can trace its roots back to 1857.

The Pugh Funeral Home page is written to help families and friends learn about our history, people, and services. Emory Kearns, a well-known Randolph County citizen, sold coffins and officiated at funerals as a sideline to his furniture store. An associate of Kearns, O.R. Fox, took over both businesses in 1885. Fox's son-in-law, Jess T. Pugh, joined the firm in 1921 and later purchased it in 1927. In 1932 Jess Pugh separated the funeral home from the furniture business and officially established Pugh Funeral Home. The Randleman facility was established in 1938 and the Pugh-Troy Funeral Home was purchased in 1967 from Mr. Gene Reynolds. In 1984, the Pugh's moved their Asheboro facility into a newly constructed home at 437 Sunset Avenue. By 1993, the Pugh's had established Randolph County's first crematory- Central Carolina Crematory. In early 1999 Asheboro Florist and Interiors was purchased by the Pugh's in order to offer convenience and availability to families selecting funeral flowers. In 1999, the Buckner Family of Siler City approached the Pugh's regarding the purchase of their family's funeral home. Later that year Smith & Buckner Funeral Home of Siler City, North Carolina joined the Pugh family firms. In 2001, New Hope Memorial Gardens opened. This 42 acre site is becoming one of the premier cemeteries in the area. The initial 3 acres offer over 2800 interment spaces in a beautifully landscaped haven. In spring of 2017 the Pugh's were pleased to add Phillips Funeral Home in Star to the Pugh Funeral Home Family. Throughout the years, the firm has remained family owned and operated. Jess Pugh's son, J.T. "Jack" Pugh, became President of the company in 1953. Today, the reigns of leadership are in the hands of two of his sons: Mac and Ed Pugh.

Terry Lynn Waisner

Terry Lynn Waisner went to be with his Lord on February 21, 2026 at Randolph Hospice House, surrounded by the love of his wife and sons. Terry was born to Gary Lamar Waisner and Shirley Marie Ritchie in Stanley County on July 3, 1955.

Terry was a true old school cowboy. Old school cowboys were defined by their toughness, their sheer will, and their diverse skills, all which Terry had in spades. He rode bulls, worked leather, carved walking sticks, raced go-karts, coached his sons’ sports teams, and was the picture of a classic outdoorsman. He was a living historian, not only delving into the record of the past but re-enacting it for the benefit of all. He is remembered for singular will exemplified in many facets. From his volunteer firefighting, to establishing traditions within the family, for example reading the Christmas story every Christmas morning - something his sons now practice with their families. He even surprised the hospice nurses with how strongly he fought at the very end of his life to stay with his family for just a little bit longer. He always put his family first and took very seriously the role of Papa to his grandkids. Terry’s story would not be complete without telling of his commitment to his faith and his church. He sang in the choir, was Sunday School superintendent, was very involved in the pig pickin’, and participated in the annual nativity for as long as he was able. Terry’s trust in God got him through situations that would have ruined normal men. Though he was a fighter of singular will, it was his faith that brought him through all that life threw at him. Now he is healed, whole, and triumphant with the God that never left him.

Terry is survived by his wife of 47 years Lisa Waisner of the home; his sons Matthew Waisner (Kimberly), and Mark Waisner (Amie); his grandchildren Selah, Emmalie, and Graham; his sister Cynthia Moffitt (Steve); his sister-in-law Lorelei Phillips (Jarrett); his uncle Lynn Ritchie (Kate); and various nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Terry was pre-deceased by his parents, his parents-in-law Leonard and Elaine Cox, his grandparents, especially Papa with whom he was very close, and his beloved bulldog Chance.

The funeral service for Terry will be on Wednesday February 25, 2026, at Bethel Friends Meetinghouse, 2519 Bethel Friends Rd, Asheboro, NC 27205, at 3PM. A visitation will precede the service at 2PM, and period of refreshments in the fellowship hall will follow the burial in the Bethel Friends cemetery.

The family would like to publicly thank Hospice House of Randolph for the incredible care they showed both to Terry and to the rest of the family.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the 26th North Carolina Re-enactors through PayPal treasurer@26nc.org, and to Bethel Friends Meeting.

Pugh Funeral Home is honored to serve the Waisner family.

Chay Chi

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of Chay Chi, who left this world on February 13, 2026 at the age of 75.

Born on June 23, 1950 in Haiphong, Vietnam, Chay lived through the Vietnam War and finally immigrated to the United States in 1980. He faced the challenges of building a new life with resilience, grace and hard work. Learning a new language, adapting to unfamiliar customs, and working tirelessly - often at more than one job - never lost sight of the dream that brought him, his wife and young son here: to create stability, opportunity, and hope for those they loved. He lived in Asheboro for 46 years and spent most of his career at Klaussner Furniture and ultimately retired from there in 2016.

Above all, Chay was a devoted parent. He taught by example the values of hard work, integrity, and perseverance. Through quiet sacrifice and unconditional love, Chay consistently showed that strength is not loud, and that courage often looks like showing up every single day for your family.

Chay found joy in fishing, UNC basketball, card games and spicy foods. During his years after retirement, he enjoyed his daily walks and traveling to spend time with his six grandchildren.

Chay is survived by his wife, Van Chi, his children – son Long Chi and wife Sarah Chi, daughter Lynn Chi Valdes and husband Michael Valdes and son Billy Chi and wife Isabelle Tan. He will be greatly missed by his six grandchildren Jack Valdes, Noah Chi, Maya Chi, Charlie Valdes, Nathan Chi and Vincent Chi. He also has siblings and many extended family members and friends across the United States, China and Vietnam.

While we mourn the loss of a beloved parent, grandparent, and friend, we also celebrate a life defined by bravery, sacrifice, and unwavering love. The opportunities we enjoy today are a testament to his courage. His story lives on in the lives he shaped and the values he instilled.

We honor Chay not only for where he came from, but for what he built, what he endured, and what he gave. He will be deeply missed.

The family will receive guests at a visitation at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro, NC on Friday, February 20th from 6-8pm.

Doris Talbert Pierce

Doris Marie Talbert Pierce, 74, of Asheboro, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Moses Cone Hospital.

Doris was born on March 5, 1951, in Asheboro, North Carolina, to Frances and James Talbert. A proud graduate of Asheboro High School, Class of 1969, she went on to dedicate 40+ faithful years of service as a “floor lady”/shift leader at Acme-McCrary. After retirement, she found her greatest joy at home, caring for and pouring her love into her beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren whom she adored beyond measure.

Doris was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and loyal friend. She was dependable, dedicated, and fiercely protective of those she loved.

Doris was also hilarious and unapologetically herself. She had no filter, so buckle up, because she was going to tell you exactly what she thought. Yet behind her bold honesty was a heart that loved big. She would give you the shirt right off her back, food from her plate, and money she needed more herself, without hesitation. She loved watching her favorite television programs, finding a good deal at the thrift store, feeding her family, and loved the Lord with all her heart. Her faith was strong, steady, and central to her life.

She is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Harkey and husband Paul Harkey; granddaughter Lyndsey Parker and husband Harley Parker; grandson Dalton Julian and fiancée Brittany Allred; granddaughter Cameron Coy and husband Dawson Coy; Weston and Hudson Harkey; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Payton, Jace, Noah, Rylan, Jesse, Skylar, Reyna, and Adler.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Frances and James Talbert; her brothers, Clinton James “CJ” Talbert and Donald Ray Talbert; and her beloved daughter, Dena Michelle Pierce.

A memorial service will be Saturday, February 28th @ 2pm at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made Freedom Life Church in Asheboro NC.

Doris will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her incredible laughter, her ability to make others laugh, her bold spirit, and the tremendous love she gave so freely.

Our Story

The Pugh Funeral Home page is written to help the families and friends about our history, people, and services. Pugh Funeral Home can trace its roots back to 1857. This 42-acre site is becoming one of the premier cemeteries in the area.
