🌸 Menopause, Hormones & Your Pelvic Floor: What You Should Know 🌸

Did you know the hormonal changes of menopause can have a big impact on your pelvic floor health?

As estrogen levels decline during perimenopause and menopause, the tissues of the pelvic floor can become thinner, less elastic, and weaker. This can lead to symptoms like:

✅ Urinary leakage (stress incontinence)
✅ Urgency or frequency
✅ Vaginal dryness or discomfort
✅ Pelvic organ prolapse

But here’s the good news: you can take action!

🧘‍♀️ Pelvic floor exercises (like Kegels) can strengthen these muscles.
💧 Vaginal moisturizers or estrogen therapy (discuss with your doctor) can help maintain tissue health.
🤸‍♀️ Seeing a pelvic floor physical therapist can provide tailored strategies to address symptoms.

Menopause is a natural transition—but you don’t have to “just live with” pelvic floor changes. If you’re navigating this stage of life, know that help and support are available. 💜

Mamas, did you know that during delivery there are many positions to choose from? In the media we typically see women delivering babies laying on their back. However studies have shown less perineal trauma, more efficient contractions, and increased space in pelvis resulting in less complications when delivering in upright positions such as squatting, kneeling , all fours, and standing or lateral positions such as side-lying.

Pain Relief During Labor: You Have Options!

Whether you're planning a natural birth or considering medical support, knowing your options can make all the difference. Here are some common and effective pain-relieving techniques during labor:

Natural Techniques:
* Breathing & Relaxation: Deep breathing, guided imagery, and meditation help manage stress and reduce pain.
* Movement & Positioning: Walking, swaying, squatting, or using a birthing ball can ease pressure and help baby move down.
* Massage & Touch: Gentle pressure or counterpressure on the lower back can bring big relief.
* Hydrotherapy: Warm showers or baths can be incredibly soothing during contractions.
* TENS Machine: A small device that sends mild electrical pulses to block pain signals.

Medical Options:
* Epidural Anesthesia: One of the most common pain relief methods.
* Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas): Helps you relax and takes the edge off pain.
* IV Medications: Can offer short-term relief, especially in early labor.

Every birth is different, and what works for one may not work for another. The most important thing? You feel supported and in control of your choices.
