Things that You can Actually do with a Reiki Certification

(& that people will pay you for!!!)

-Bring it to a local hospital: I have firsthand seen Reiki offered to cancer wards, hospice, addiction recovery centers speech pathology offices. The options are endless, and your community may have the funding already in place! I know AVL and ASPN do.

-Reiki and Restore yoga: if you are a yoga teacher, you will love teaching this class!! It is also a great way to share Reiki and build a clientele. I’ve also personally offered Reiki at farmers markets, festivals and cacao ceremonies, and the options are endless!

-Horse Reiki: yes this is real. Like, very real. And pet reiki for that matter. People love their animals, and their healing is just as important!! Do you know where your nearest horse rescue center or equine therapy center is?!

-Start that side hustle: diversified income is wealth, people!!! That’s how we stay out of the cog of the machine, how we reclaim our sovereignty, how we create TRUE freedom. Join us 👽

-Infuse it: The reiki energy can be infused in ANYTHING. You sell candles? Add reiki. You make jewelry? Reiki. You are a massage therapist?? REIKI. I also just like to infuse pieces of my home, past, and self with reiki, because it’s not all about monetizing here 😉

-HEALING: Reiki empowers you to Self Heal. It provides a framework for you to dive deeper into your Self and continue the healing process internally. That is not to say that different forms of therapy are not also important in this process, just that this empowers you to start a piece of that journey yourself, on your time and your terms.

You Choose.

I should not exist.

You should not exist.

We should all not exist.

Speaking purely on the chances of this iteration of you being here and now, this unique combination of s***m and egg, out of billions of options… we all should not exist.

The chances are minuscule.

The statistics were never in our favor…

Yet here we are.

So you have one of two options as you move forward within this life:

to choose coincidence, or to choose connection.

Neither can be fully proven as fact. Neither is more “true”.

It is always a choice.

So why no choose the one that makes you feel a part of something larger? Full of signs and awe and love and joy? Full of just plain FUN?!

I know what I choose. And you? 💛

Wishing you love, light and bouts of laughter,

Grappling with the term Reiki Master

I’ve been feeling for a while now that using the term “Master” to describe my relationship with Reiki was inauthentic. For a while, I thought it could be my Imposter Syndrome rearing its head again, saying “you’re not good/experienced/woke/educated enough to claim that you are a Reiki Master, compared to the others”. For a while, I let that story be true. But I’ve had time to both think on this concept as well as release many old ideas around success, validity and worthiness, and I’m now here to say that the term just doesn’t fit.

At least not how it comes off.

I do not want to be the Master of anything. It implies servitude: that the Reiki energy is working FOR me, which just isn’t true. It is working through me: Myself and my openness as the conduit for the energy to move from the universe and into you. With perhaps my own personal lens on it, so that I can share what I’m finding with you. But it is not mine to enslave.

Also, there is no Mastery in Exploration. When we say we’ve Mastered something, there is no more growth or learning, just sharing.

Never trust someone who says they know everything about something. The more you learn, the more you see that you don’t know. It is a beautiful, never-ending paradigm that keeps us alive, curious, hungry and ready.

The entire concept of Reiki is based around exploration, and staying open to whatever comes. Exploration of the Self, to observe and understand how your intuition flows in so that you can begin to notice, hone and share it. Exploration of the ego, to let go of any judgements of what your experience “should” be so that you can focus on what is actually there. Exploration of the universe, as you start to let in energy and move it, massage it, work it, and let it go. And exploration of all other unknowns, as you acknowledge that we do not know everything about how energy and the universe works, but we can allow ourselves to surrender to the flow and trust what comes.

There is a famous reiki quote that says “A Reiki Master is not one who has mastered Reiki, but who has allowed Reiki to master them”. now THIS resonates. But the fact that it needs to be explained in this way means that inherently, the phrase is not what we want it to be or portray.

This should be a phrase that feels clear and empowering, now more mystifying than the experience itself!

All this to say, I’m still figuring out on where to land with it all. I will be moving slowly towards something more along the lines of “Reiki Practitioner/Teacher”. Those that know the details on learning Reiki know that to be a Teacher, you must first become a Reiki Master. So inherently this will be known, without having to use the word. But it is a title that is widely accepted and recognized, so even if it is just for familiarity purposes, it’s here to stay (for now).

Thank you for reading my rant on the last week of this wild ride of a year. I’m looking forward to the future, to the exploration, to the unknown.

What you Really Need when You're Healing...

Are tangible tools!

How exactly do you bring your nervous system online? What does proper manifestation look like in reality and why does it work? How do I hone my intuition? Where does trauma live in the mind and body and how do I ACTUALLY go about releasing it??

These questions and more are things that we demystify in my Reiki Level 1&2 class ✨

It’s so much more than the classic certification— we learn the art of SCIENCE + SURRENDER.

Taking nebulous ideas and turning them into tangible practices so you know exactly what tool to take out of your tool belt when triggers arise.

Feeling some type of way after a Reiki session??

After a Reiki Session with your practitioner, you may be feeling some type of way. Maybe you’re exhausted, or overly energized, or still, or sore. Maybe you have a runny nose, stomach aches, or are feeling unusually busy or negative. You could truly feel any which way.

First off, this is normal. Secondly, do your best to embrace yourself exactly as you’re showing up. Reiki is like an energetic chiropractor experience, and has similar symptoms that come from realignment and adjustment. Your body is in a new state than it was before, and when adjusted that can initially be uncomfortable.

Deep healing changes are taking place in the body. The release of trauma and toxins that have been stored in the body for what could be a very long time is bound to be uncomfortable, just like releasing them through something like talk therapy often is. Just like clearing out old furniture for new, cobwebs and dirt will show themselves. It is all a part of the growth process.

The adjustments do not simply stop once you get off of the table— they will continue to adjust for 72 hours or so after a session. Giving your body grace and staying curious as best you can during this time is all you truly need to do.

We are holistic beings, and noticing these shifts towards “good” or “bad” just shows our true wholeness, and that healing is never linear but always necessary and for the greatest good. Sit in your trust and your surrender, knowing that just by you taking the space for yourself to seek out healing means you’re in the right place, even when that place can feel sticky and icky and uncomfortable.

And of course, if it persists please do seek a medical professional’s opinion! Reiki does not take the place of a doctor’s visit and Reiki practitioners should never give you medical advice.

If you have any further questions or anecdotes, I would love to hear them!

6 Ways to Actually Manifest Your Dreams

The Law of Attraction is also known as the Science of Manifestation.

When you google Manifestation, the definition is: an event, action or object that clearly shows or embodies something, especially a theory or an abstract idea." What this is saying is that manifesting is the process of bringing some intangible idea into the physical world around you through intention and action. One vibration attracts the same vibration and they compound. Also, that a vibration does not continue to be expressed if not played. Meaning, you must constantly be thinking about your dreams, allowing yourself to feel as if they are already so, and taking action towards them daily to manifest them as a reality.

Now this is not always as simple as some people make it sound. There are two keys here: the first is the means of thinking about the goal: It is important to experience the goal as already achieved in your mind for a proper manifestation practice. What do your surroundings look like? What are you wearing? What do you see, smell, taste, hear, and FEEL in this moment of triumph? Allow yourself to feel as if it is already so. The act of linking your senses and emotions to the goal as you allow yourself to temporarily live inside of it's success in your mind is how you actually create the VIBRATION of the goal that goes out into the world. Writing it down over and over is not enough. You must sit with it, and let it in to your body, no matter how far off or scary that may feel.

The second key is to still take action towards the goal. This sounds like common sense, but is often overlooked when manifestation is taught. It is not magic. It is all the science of vibration and attraction as well as the ability to follow through. Dreams do not appear in our reality without us making space for them in some way. So what is one tiny actionable item you can take today to move yourself an inch closer to this goal? What is a story you need to release in order to step more fully into this version of yourself that would be able to achieve this goal? And remember, make your goal for the day S.M.A.R.T.: specific, measurable, actionable, reasonable, and timely. This will help you actually know exactly what to follow through on for the day that will lead you to your larger goal.

Through the law of attraction, we can understand that the universe will rearrange for you when the manifestation practice is properly in place. You are worthy of your goals simply because you desire them.

To Recap:

The Physical World = Energy and Vibration

Feelings are also all Energy and Vibration

Feelings = How you be

How you be = what you attract

6 Tips to Feel the Feelings: Manifesting Through...

Visualizations: Get as specific and into your 5 senses as you can as you envision this goal as already completed

Speaking Affirmations, Embracing Mantras, Using Music and Sound: Let the feelings of success encompass you and let the feelings in misalignment roll off of you.

Journaling: Write down all of the details of your dream or goal. This incorporates a different side of the brain to fully encompass the vibration you want to put out into the world.

Gratitude + desire lists: To help keep you grounded in the present, because Real Talk: if you can't find a way to be happy right now, whenever you get to your dream it still won't make you happy.

Disproving limiting beliefs: Get curious on where these negative stories come from in your head. What triggered the self-loathing? Where did this imposter syndrome come from? Why am I trying to self-sabotage? Invite these emotions in like wounded children instead of shaming them away from your consciousness. Imagine yourself giving these emotions that are trying to protect you but no longer serve you a big hug. Get down on their level, look them in the eyes and thank them as you ask them to leave. And then take action in your body or mind immediately to replace the negative pattern with something else: a positive thought no matter how forced it may feel, an actionable item, etc.

Movement & Action: Follow through. Create space in your psyche and life to let more good flow in. Nothing can flow in if your energy and space is still clogged up with negative energy and low vibration. Clean your house. Set boundaries. Commit to getting rid of a bad habit. Go on a walk. Make a list. Meditate. What's one small thing you can definitely do today to move you forward? Momentum compounds on itself, and an object at rest stays at rest. Which do you want to be?

Take time. Do your best to allow yourself to feel as if it were already so. If you desire it, you deserve it.

What Does "High Vibe" Even Mean?

"If you wish to understand the Universe, think of Energy, Frequency, and Vibration."

-Nikola Tesla

Have you ever witnessed someone walking into the room and the energy shifts? This is one of the most popular examples of the fact that everything is vibration. Every thing around us gives off a Hertz frequency. For example, the Earth has a frequency of 7.8Hz. Binaural beats which you may know of are said to be good for sleep and relaxation-- around 1-8 Hz.

Water is a great conductor of vibration (aka ripples!). You can see the Hz waves as they replicate and travel farther and farther away from the source. Our body is around 60% water and brain is 73%, too. Implicating that our body, especially our brain, is also a great conductor of vibration.

When people say they want to "increase their frequency" or "high vibes only", it refers to the concept of literally increasing the vibration in your mind for clarity, action and connectedness and letting go of everything that stands in the way of that pure vibration (imagine the ripple, once more, with a rock in the way). We do create our vibrations, aka energy, aka thoughts as they travel along our neural pathways, through our reactions to all stimuli that comes into our body. These vibrations can be felt all around us in subtle ways because of the ripple effect that all waves have. This takes us back to the example of energy somehow shifting in a room when someone walks in!

Another important scientific principle is that like vibration attracts like vibration. If you put two tuning forks of the same Hz next to each other and only strike one, the other one will pick up this Hz and begin making sound as well. This has huge implications! One being that what you put out does become attracted back to you, but you must continue acting in alignment with the vibration you want to attract in order to bring it to you. It is not a one-and-done situation. Waves do not continue to travel if they aren't continually played. Continue living in accordance with your highest self and the world will unfold for you.

Another implication is that vibration amplifies when you are in alignment with that around you. If your work, your surroundings, your community are all aligned with who you are becoming, you will find that your path to your highest self becomes easier. Obstacles fall away. This is the work of attracting the world to you. This is high vibration.

Reiki is all about expanding the time between stimuli and reaction. This is where your power lies. Within this space is the opportunity to decide your reaction. Noticing which reaction initially always wants to come up is the first step of unlearning what no longer serves you. Expanding this moment with awareness allows you to rewrite these patterns in the mind through intentional choice. Instead of becoming angry, try to notice that that is your first response. Be curious with that, and take a moment to ask yourself why. This person was not trying to make you angry, so why did your mind choose this defense mechanism? Hmmmm... can you choose love instead? Understanding? Compassion? Relax the body in this different emotion and try to let it move through you without resistance. How does that feel in your body and mind instead?

This. This process right here... is the WORK that people talk about. These are the tangible, simple yet not easy steps to take to come back to your self.

Now that we've spoken on vibration, let's touch on some more physical manifestations of vibration. Along with your thoughts, emotions, and "vibes", sound is vibration. This is why there have been healing mantras around for centuries. Long ago, wise people of the ancient world felt the healing potential of sound. Sound as medicine is coming back, slowly but surely into our industrialized world where many people are dissociated from their bodies and thus their own healing for their entire lives.

This coming back is what it is all about. Spiritual practices (such as reiki, chanting, yoga, prayer, journaling, dance, etc.) can raise your vibration, but vibration can also raise your spiritual practice. There is no "one must come before the other". Some people find salvation through their body by employing dance. Some people find another means to salvation, which allows their body and mind to embrace play more easily and dance comes back into their lives. There is no one size fits all healing scenario, but sound will always be able to be a tool.

Sound can be used to release energetic blockages. For centuries, techniques of sound healing have been used to create a vibration in the body. When I say "sound healing", this can mean music, a phrase, singing, instruments, chanting-- anything that creates sound. These vibrations from the source pe*****te all that is around it, in that ripple effect that all waves have. And if the sound that you are producing isn't intended for a specific healing Hertz (because how many of us know the Hz of our own voice!) the key instead is the INTENTION behind the sound. Any thing that you create, that comes out of your body and mind and into the world around you, will serve you if it is done with intention. This can be intention of surrender, compassion, grounding, expansion, or literally anything else you're calling in. Let your mantra guide you back into the present moment through your intention, whenever you need it and call on it.

Now anything that makes sound can be a form of sound healing, but I find Sanskrit to be a particularly nourishing vessel for healing. Sanskrit means "perfected, or well-made". It is the only language that was formed solely around the vibrations that our mouths can make. It is organized by 5 different points in the mouth that create different vibratory waves, which each resonate at different frequencies and thus impact our body and mind in different ways. It is the true meaning of the "felt" sense.

There are countless different chants, or Mantras, in Sanskrit. Some of my favorites are:

Loka samasta sukhino bhavantu: A personal favorite, which translates to "May all beings everywhere be happy and free, and may the thoughts, words and actions of my own life contribute to the happiness and freedom of all."

So Hum: meaning, I am that.

Even When: as in, "choose love, even when things get rough/ugly/misunderstood/etc"

Ho’oponopono Prayer: "I'm sorry. Please forgive me. I love you. Thank you, thank you, thank you." This is one I often guide clients to repeat after me during sessions when they are looking to heal from a specific memory, bodily trauma, or story. It releases blame and separation, letting empathy reign.

Now for some Implications and Assumptions:

Frequency will always want to harmonize with things that are similar

Opposites don’t attract

It AMPLIFIES when you are in alignment (purpose, partner, etc)

You can attract other things at your vibration by living in your vibration consistently

**Waves don’t continue to travel if not played**

What you send out will come back to you in many different ways (The basis of Manifestation, which we will touch on next)

You are in control!

Now you may be asking: How do you raise your vibration?

I recommend establishing consistent practices such as grounding, earthing, meditation, eating well, releasing stress and fear in ways such as dance, song, prayer, movement, letting go of relationships that no longer serve you, doing the work to notice negative thoughts and intentionally rewrite them, and living with integrity.

Remember, it takes time. But you've got this. Through action comes change. Comes release. Comes freedom, realignment and rejuvenation for you to continue moving towards a higher version of your Self. And if you ever feel you could benefit from direct guidance and clearing of lower vibrations, I’m here. Check out my offerings for more information

What TF is Reiki Even Good For?

This is a question that I get a lot, being a practitioner that primarily tends to bring in clients that are novices to Reiki. And personally, this is how I like it! My grounded approach seems to give people a place to land inside a world that can seem extremely “woo-woo”.

So what is Reiki good for, you ask? Well first we need to start with what it is. Reiki is about the body and the mind and the soul— all things most people would say are real. It is the process of relaxing all of these elements of ourself in order to see where patterns have built up, and how to release them to create more space for your limitless future and expanding mind. This is done through specific hand positions, guided meditations, breathwork, visualizations and more. Though I will make note here that many traditional practices only incorporate hand positions, keeping all of the magic on the practitioner and not so much overtly empowering the student (which I find happens with the aforementioned latter 3 pillars). That being said, the body and mind can finally relax through these means. Within this space, old patterns and thoughts have space to come up to the surface and be released.

For example, once on the table and we begin to work on your shoulders, I notice through your skeletal system, breathing patterns, blood flow, my own ability to tap into your energetic system and more that with each inhale, the shoulders pull forward, slightly closing. And with the exhale, you come back to a neutral spine. Now this pattern can be due to a number of things: maybe you work at your computer all day and hunching over all the time has written this pattern in the body for you. Maybe you’re shy, and try (even unconsciously) to make yourself small and take up less space as you move through the world, to avoid attention and to not ever be in the way. Maybe you’ve had a recent heartbreak, and are unconsciously protecting your heart from being vulnerable again (which is noted in the motion of literally curling the body around the heart to protect it, no matter how subtle it may seem to you in everyday life). And maybe, these things work together. Maybe through working from home you’ve found yourself becoming more shy and aren’t sure why. One came before the other, and impacted the mental body as the physical shifted.

There could be more reasons as well, but we will start with these. Now we don’t know without discussing which one of these it could be. But truly, it does not matter. You do not have to know the culprit to rid yourself of it. What we will do in a Reiki session is put light pressure on the shoulders to reroute the breathe to expand the chest with the inhale instead of contract. I will cue different breath patterns or visualizations for you to begin tapping into this area of the body and become aware of what is happening with each breath. And together, we will rewrite it. Giving the breath a new route built on confidence, vulnerability as strength, trust, and general well-being in the body, mind and soul.

This is but one example of what reiki is good for. Reiki is good for countless things, big and small. Personally, I have worked with and seen vast improvements of people with cancer, Autism, depressions, anxiety, traumatic brain injuries, new loss, old loss, COVID, sexual assault, bullying, amputation and more. We all hold something from our past that isn’t ours. And it doesn’t have to be one big overt trauma to be effecting how we carry ourselves through our lives, shielding ourselves from potential joy. By increasing our awareness of those shadows we begin to rewrite them and release them.

What are you currently working through? What are you ready to release?

How TF Distance Reiki Actually Works

Reiki, or the Universal Life Force Energy that unites us all, is a form of energy that is unlike that of gasoline, calories or coal in the way that it currently cannot be measured or quantified, only intuited (or qualified). It is a felt sense. It is a felt energy. This means that many people in this day and age, defined to productivity and often seeing “feeling” as unnecessary, are out of tune with the energy they experience in their daily lives. On the other side of that coin though, I’m sure all of us have experienced the shifting of energy when someone walks into a room. You may not know how or why, but something just feels different. This tapping in and noticing is the biggest step in starting your own person energetic journey.

Going into this on a more tangible way, energetics are all physics. The Newtonian laws that once “defined” our world (aka accepted by all and enforced by the Church re: Council of Trent which is a whole other post in itself), is now an incomplete model. Quantum physics now encompasses the “laws” of the universe more fully— meaning, the physical world that can be measured and observed is not all there is. The nuances of atoms, and the space that exists between them, has more to show us than a ball dropping from a building or a wheel turning.

Specifically, the atom consists of protons, electrons and neutrons which are charged positively, negatively and neutrally respectively. The protons and electrons are constantly moving around the neutrons in the center of the atom, so they are impossible to actually observe in real time. These aspects used to be the main focus of study, but it is now known and has been measured that 99.999999999999% of one atom is actually space. Yes, that is 12 9’s after the period. So is this just empty space? Newtonian physics used to say it was, but now we know that this space is not empty because it is full of energy. This space holds the energetic fields that are created when positive and negative charges interact. Think magnet, or poles of the earth.

Ok. So now we understand that this space is not empty, but full of charge and thus a field of energy. Now imagine a space that is 99.999999999999% space, with the remaining as a solid object. For example, an entire football field with 6 pins representing 3 protons and 3 electrons. You can imagine that with this sort of space, it is difficult to actually establish boundaries where the “atom” ends since it is all space that constantly moves and morphs as electrons and protons continue to circle the nucleus.

Because of this lack of boundaries, the world becomes an energetic lattice of overlapping atoms, where there is truly no place where you stop and I begin.

Through intention, practice, and the ability to presence oneself so much that you can listen without thinking or creating stories in your mind (enter: a meditation practice), you can tap into others energies no matter how far away they are. The biggest thing here is trust. And practice. With tangible tools, you can learn how to do this, surrendering to the world around you.

Now as far as sessions go, they are over the phone. I ask that you are comfortable in your space, lying down and warm as your body temperature drops when laying for an hour. Some practitioners will stay silent the whole time, working through your body from head to toe using the traditional framework of Reiki practice that involves hand positions and energetic movement. While I do use these practices, I personally lead you through specific visualizations, meditations, breathwork, sound therapy and more the employ your help in the process and provide more clarify for you. This combines my knowledge of yoga, breathwork, the nervous system, manifestation, health coaching and more to show you that I am just your conduit to healing, and the power to realign and heal is truly already within you.

Science + Surrender.

I can’t wait to share this love with you,
Eden of RFR

The History of Reiki

Mikao Usui was the founder of Usui Reiki, which is the oldest established form of Reiki. He was born in 1865, making Reiki relatively young in the grand scheme of history.

Usui had interests in medicine, history and divination, and was drawn to pilgrimage up Kurama Mountain in Japan. His Intention was to develop a system to provide a simple method for the individual to reconnect with their innate spirituality in a Japan where the values of traditional society had begun to break down.

Remember, Japan is an island. It was isolated for hundreds of years before expansion and imperialism began. So for a long while, this country had the beautiful ability to allow its culture to concentrate, without external influences. Once Imperialism began and ideas, disease, people and technology spread through every part of the world, the concentrated culture of Japan began to become watered down. The rich traditions of the dedicated Samurai, Japanese Buddhism, ideas such as "ikigai" flow state achievement and more were being lost in the worldly shuffle.

Mikao used this need of preserving his culture as the fuel for his fire-- forming this Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai: Usui Spiritual Energy Healing Method. He gave structure to ideas that have been around for centuries, bringing many practices together into one space, and to be placed under the Reiki umbrella.

So though the system of Reiki is relatively new, the ideals of and connection to source have been around for much, much longer.

Usui formed this new sphere around meditation and mantra. The hands on techniques were added in the last years of his teachings, and were honed by his students to come.

Among those students was Chujiro Hayashi. He was a doctor, surgeon, and in the Navy. He gave even more structure to Usui's teachings, developing the now classic hand positions and putting them into extensive practice through his own medical clinic: Hayashi Reiki Kenkyu Kai or Hayashi Spiritual Energy Research Society.

Next enters Hawayo Takata. She was a Japanese woman born in Hawaii. Though her own health obstacles, she became desperate and in 1935 traveled back to Japan to attend Hayashi's clinic with the hopes of healing herself. Within a few weeks, she had accomplished what she set out to do and was better than ever. She stayed at the clinic to study under Hayashi, finding her life's purpose. Takata then traveled back to Hawaii, bringing the teachings of Usui and Hayashi with her.

Initially, this was extremely controversial. Reiki was solely a Japanese tradition built for the Japanese people. Takata still shared Reiki however, and we owe it to her for bringing it to the Western world. Soon after she got back to Hawaii, the borders to Japan closed from WWII and Reiki may have been lost forever.

Takata trained 22 people to become Reiki Masters in the West. She charged $10,000 for each class, making sure that only those most dedicated would learn from her. She was also adamant about never writing the symbols down, meaning that the symbols changed slightly throughout her years of teaching. Generally they are the same, but you will find small variations amongst practitioners because of the varying baseline to which so many of our teachers were taught.

One of Takata's students was named Iris Ishikuro. Once she became a Master Teacher, she decided to offer Reiki at a much more reasonable fee to be able to share it with the world. However, she only trained two Masters: Her daughter Ruby and Arthur Robertson. Ruby never went on to teach Reiki, but Robertson went on to train many Masters at this lower price point. Because of this shift, most all Reiki Master Lineages trace back to Ishikuro and Robertson, including mine!

Let it be noted, this was never offered for free. The energetic exchange component of teaching this skill is a sign of respect that gives homage to the Japanese culture and keeps intentions strong and true.

The history if Reiki, like all things, continues to form as we continue to share our gifts and make choices within each moment that shape our day, year and life. You being here, right now and nowhere else, is all a part of this magic. So thanks ♡

*The history of Reiki, especially our Master Usui's upbringing, has been debated from the start. This is the most accurate understanding I have gleaned from many books and personal research.*

Much love,
