August is Overdose Awareness Month — a time to remember lives lost, stand with grieving loved ones, and speak openly and compassionately about substance use and healing.
Drug overdoses remain a devastating public health crisis. In 2024, the CDC reported over 100,000 lives lost in the U.S., with opioids playing a major role. Behind each number is a person — a friend, family member, or neighbor — whose life mattered.
For many, substance use starts as a way to cope with trauma, emotional pain, or untreated mental health challenges. Shame, stigma, and isolation can make the struggle even more dangerous.
When we listen without judgment and create space for open conversation, we make room for connection, healing, and hope.
