This week, our team took a little time for ourselves with an evening of self-care at Drip Sauna here in Asheville ✨ The warmth, quiet, and space to simply breathe was exactly what we needed. As therapists, we spend so much energy supporting others, and it felt so good to refill our own cups together. 💛

Thank you to our friends at Drip Sauna for creating such a restorative space in the heart of Asheville — we’ll be carrying that calm back into our work and our week! 🌿🧖‍♀️

🌿 Meet Brita Nordgren 🌿

We’re so excited to introduce Brita, one of our incredible Occupational Therapists here at The Family OT!

Brita’s journey into occupational therapy is deeply personal—rooted in her own childhood experiences with sensory processing, emotional regulation, and learning challenges. As a teacher, she noticed many of her students faced similar struggles, which inspired her to look beyond the classroom and explore ways to truly support children and families.

With a Master’s in Occupational Therapy and a passion for pediatrics, Brita blends her background in Waldorf education, art, and learning support with expertise in child development, sensory integration, and emotional regulation. Her holistic approach prioritizes each child’s unique perspective while fostering strong collaboration with parents, families, and teachers.

When she’s not at The Family OT, Brita loves life in Western North Carolina, where she’s lived for over 20 years. She and her family call Weaverville home, and you can often find her hiking the local trails with her dogs, creating art, sewing, or woodworking.

💚 Please join us in welcoming Brita to The Family OT community!

🌟 Meet Chad, our newest therapy assistant at The Family OT! 🌟

Chad brings a wealth of experience and a lifelong passion for helping others. His journey began as a direct support professional working with autistic adults, and since then he’s worn many hats in both pediatrics and geriatrics—from behavior technician to art therapy assistant. Inspired by the amazing OTs he’s worked alongside, Chad pursued his degree as an occupational therapy assistant, and we couldn’t be more excited to have him on our team.

When he’s not supporting clients, you’ll find Chad playing music (guitar, piano, and even hammered dulcimer!), hiking in the mountains, or enjoying a good book by the lake. 🎶📚🌿

Please join us in giving Chad a warm welcome to The Family OT community—we’re thrilled for the energy, compassion, and creativity he brings to our practice! 💙

Please pass the word along if you know a family in need. I have a list of specific items I will be picking up and dropping off tomorrow.

✨If you’re still in town and have a neurodivergent child or family member that has specific needs due to sensory differences, dietary restrictions, developmental delay, etc. please send me a direct message of what you may need at this time. Our clinic is collecting supplies as many food banks and supply centers do not offer the specific food items and supplies that many of our neurodivergent individuals in the community require. Sending love and support ✨🧡🩷💛✨

*Updated July 2023 In light of the tidal wave of neuroscience research about healing childhood trauma, I had hoped that by now the systems of education and juvenile justice would change the way they view and support children and teens exposed to trauma. That hasn’t happened yet. And while I’m he...
