Please pass the word along if you know a family in need. I have a list of specific items I will be picking up and dropping off tomorrow.

✨If you’re still in town and have a neurodivergent child or family member that has specific needs due to sensory differences, dietary restrictions, developmental delay, etc. please send me a direct message of what you may need at this time. Our clinic is collecting supplies as many food banks and supply centers do not offer the specific food items and supplies that many of our neurodivergent individuals in the community require. Sending love and support ✨🧡🩷💛✨

*Updated July 2023 In light of the tidal wave of neuroscience research about healing childhood trauma, I had hoped that by now the systems of education and juvenile justice would change the way they view and support children and teens exposed to trauma. That hasn’t happened yet. And while I’m he...

When a child's distress meets up with an adult's calm presence, co-regulation happens. It's easier to do this when we "fill" our own cups first. When we try to "pour from an empty cup", we work against presence. Self-care and awareness of stress levels builds resilience in parents and children alike. If you are looking for a supportive online community, the parenting collective's second open registration closes in 2 days. https://www.monadelahooke-courses.com/bundles/the-brain-body-parenting-collective

This event is being held at The Family OT and hosted by Judy McKee. Please see her description below:

There is no agenda and there are no expectations to socialize. This is a safe place for autistic and quirky teens to be who they are without masking or trying to please anyone else.

The only expectations are to respect personal space and boundaries and to be kind.

Teens & tweens are invited to bring their favorite things, including electronics, and share a space with their quirky peers. They get to choose whether to interact or socialize; parallel play is more than okay.

Please let me know if you have questions or need additional information.

Please note, this is not intended as a Parents Night Out event. I am a parent of 2 autistic girls and am launching this because I believe there is a need for tweens & teens like my girls to have a safe place to hang out.

Because the space is small, we are limiting the number of kids and I kindly ask you to RSVP using the link https://app.acuityscheduling.com/schedule.php?owner=19193385&appointmentType=37994499

✨Welcome Hannah

Hello! My name is Hannah and I'm an occupational therapist. Originally from the Philadelphia area, I earned my Masters of Occupational Therapy from Ithaca College in 2019. I moved to Asheville in September 2021, feeling drawn to the beautiful mountains and culture of this place.

Since high school, it has been my dream to be an occupational therapist. I was drawn to the profession due to the opportunities it presents to collaborate with people in order to help them live their most fulfilling and meaningful lives. Since my fieldwork in a variety of pediatric settings, I've felt specifically called to working alongside children and their caregivers. I love to be silly, play games, and meet children where they're at to help them achieve their goals. One of my clients forgot my name once and called me "The Fun Doctor" and that's really all I could ever hope for! In my free time, enjoy exploring Asheville, playing with my dog, and completing jigsaw puzzles!

✨Welcome to our newest OTA student, Elinor!

I am an Asheville native with a professional and academic background working with children and animals. I grew up working as a camp counselor and horseback riding instructor for most of my teenage years at Hickory Nut Gap Farm in Fairview NC. After graduating from Reynolds High School, I worked for Horse Sense of the Carolinas in youth centered equine assisted psychotherapy and learning interventions. I then went on to get a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Psychology and Anthrozoology from Eastern Kentucky University. Which led to having the unforgettable opportunity to work at the Cincinnati Zoo in their public education programs as a wildlife education instructor. This is where I discovered Occupational Therapy! After moving to West Virginia, I gained further health care experience working as an OT aide in an outpatient hand therapy clinic as well as in private home hospice care as a home health aide. Currently I am back in Asheville and working towards an Associate’s Degree in Occupational Therapy Assisting from AB Tech Community College. I hope to use this certification to continue to benefit others and further support my community. Outside of the clinic you can find me driving horse carriages at the Biltmore Estate or hiking the parkway with my 4 dogs!
