One year ago, we witnessed our colleagues and medical staff give their time, energy and heart for the wellbeing of our community during a time of immeasurable uncertainty. A foundation of service over self is what has defined our legacy and will continue to be a light for others. Thank you to all of our people for your dedication to our mission.

At Mission Health, we strive to create a culture of belonging and a sense of community within our hospitals. This means no matter a person's background or ability, they are valued, accepted and included. When we asked our colleagues what it meant to belong here at Mission Health, we learned that for many colleagues, Mission Health is more than a job, it is a home.

For many patients with blood cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, a blood stem cell transplant – made possible by lifesaving donations – is the best option for survival. According to the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration, 70% of patients who need a blood stem cell transplant don't have a fully matched donor in their family, leading them to rely on the National Marrow Donor Program.

As part of HCA Healthcare, we’re proud to help meet this critical need through the HCA Healthcare Sarah Cannon Transplant and Cellular Therapy Network. This extensive network is among the largest providers of unrelated bone marrow donor transplants in the U.S., caring for tens of thousands of patients each year.

Thinking about becoming a donor? Here are a few common misconceptions and facts about blood stem cell and bone marrow donation:

❌ Myth: Donation is very painful.
✅ Fact: Discomfort and side effects vary from person to person, but it may be less painful than you think.

❌ Myth: Donation is expensive.
✅ Fact: Donating is free. All of your medical and travel expenses are covered by NMDP, and they can also help cover any lost wages due to donation.

❌ Myth: Only males can donate blood stem cells or bone marrow.
✅ Fact: Anyone between age 18 and 40 who meets the medical requirements can donate, regardless of gender.

❤️ – or atrial fibrillation – is a disruption in the heart’s electrical system, leading to an irregular heartbeat. The American Heart Association estimates that over 5 million Americans are living with AFib. Symptoms vary from one person to another, and some people may not have any symptoms at all. Those with AFib have a higher risk of stroke, heart failure and other health concerns. Fortunately, there are a variety of treatment options, which can help reduce the risk.

If you are concerned about your risk of AFib, stroke or heart failure, talk to your doctor or find a primary care physician: https://bit.ly/3VTJ1BL

When you need advanced cardiac or stroke care, you can trust the experienced providers at Mission Health. Several of our hospitals have received recognition from the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association. In recognition of Environmental Services Week, we are proud to celebrate the incredible environmental services (EVS) team members at Mission Health and across our larger HCA Healthcare network for maintaining a safe and clean environment for patients, colleagues and visitors. From infection prevention to patient safety, EVS team members show up to care for the spaces we share, and their work is foundational to the overall care experience.

Whether preparing a room for a new patient or ensuring high-touch areas are safely sanitized, the hard work and dedication of our EVS team members make a positive impact on the high-quality care we deliver. Thank you, EVS professionals, for creating a welcoming space for everyone who walks through our doors.
