Brevard Orthopedics is expanding its services in a way that strengthens care for the community and creates meaningful opportunities for healthcare professionals. The practice is welcoming a new orthopedic surgeon and adding on‑site imaging through a dedicated radiologic technologist role.

This addition will make it easier for patients to receive more of their care in one place supported by a team that values connection and quality. As the practice grows, Brevard Orthopedics is looking for a radiologic technologist who wants to help build this next chapter and play an important part in delivering accessible orthopedic care.

It’s a chance to join a team that is moving forward and make a real impact in the lives of patients. Apply today! https://bit.ly/4to7gaF

After more than 27 years of dedicated service at Mission Hospital, Dr. William Shillinglaw received a standing ovation as he walked out of the OR and toward his next adventure into retirement. Family, friends and colleagues past and present lined the path for hugs and handshakes, wishing him all the best. 🎉🏥

Trauma surgeon, medical director, advisor, resident faculty, community advocate and mentor to many: Dr. Shillinglaw was an essential part of Mission Hospital's trauma legacy and champion for the team's recent verification by the American College of Surgeons as a Level 1 trauma center.

We thank you for your unwavering dedication to patient care, to Mission, and to all of western North Carolina. We hope you enjoy a well-deserved, joyful retirement!

🐣🌸This Easter, hope is blooming in our Level III NICU at Mission Hospital.

Our tiniest fighters are celebrating their very first Easter dressed in adorable outfits, surrounded by love, strength and the dedicated care of our NICU team. These special moments mean so much to families during their journey, and we’re honored to help create a little joy along the way.

A heartfelt thank you to Preemies of the Carolinas for generously donating the beautiful Easter outfits and props, and to WNC Family Support Network for helping bring this celebration to life. Your kindness makes a lasting impact on our babies and their families.

We had an EGGcellent time with patients and their families at Mission Children's annual Spring Fling this past weekend! 🐰

Our Mission Children's Pediatric-Focused Advisory Council and Family Support Network of WNC helped bring inclusive, accessible and free fun to little ones of all ages with interactive crafts, a colorful egg hunt, sensory-friendly activities, and visits from the Easter bunny and her baby chicks 🐣 at Reuter Outpatient Center.

Thank you to our PFAC and all of our staff and volunteers for hosting this incredible event! And to learn more about our outpatient pediatric specialty services, visit: https://bit.ly/4shU59v

What better way to wrap up National Physicians Week than to share yet another example of how our esteemed medical staff shows up for WNC. Drs. Kaydie and Krystie Murphy aren’t just identical twins – they’re partners in purpose. 👩‍⚕️👩‍⚕️ After completing their internal medicine residencies, they chose to stay at Mission Health together. Their commitment goes beyond medicine. It’s about community, support of each other and their patients, and making sure no one is left behind simply because of where they live.

"A concussion can happen in an instant — a tough hit, a sudden jolt or any impact that makes the brain shift inside the skull," says Kelli Franklin, Mission Hospital pediatric trauma program manager. "And here’s the tricky part: some symptoms show up right away, while others don’t appear for hours or even days. That’s why it helps to know what to watch for and when to get help."

Mission Health emergency rooms are equipped and ready to evaluate serious head injuries and provide fast, specialized care when it matters most.

Take a moment to learn the warning signs, when rest is enough and when it’s time to call 911 or head to the ER. Your brain deserves the best protection. 🧠
